I've had this in my head for a while now. I keep meaning to try it out, but i'm afraid I've got alot piled up on my shoulders at the moment.

He's lit the detail up on plexi glass using LEDs.
I wonder if the same thing could be applied to a visor HUD. Just engrave in the detail, and light her up. It would make a pretty cool wall display.
Of course, you couldn't wear it, because your eyes wouldn't be able to focus that close.
If carving into motorcycle visors scares you, then you could even make a wooden mold for a visor, put plexi glass over the top, and stick it in the oven (tried and tested) and mold your shape, then engrave. that would be pretty cool.
Anyone up to the challenge? I'd really like to see this done.
