Well, I am very proud to show off the final steps of my rifle. As most of you know, this was a scratch AR I started to build last January. It's come a long way. The newest things I have done are paint, final LED saudering, and the last bit of Bondo! (yay) Here are someh pics as usual.

Like always, the full-body-shot-on-my-bed picture comes first. You can see here the top is fully painted, and the four green LED's have been put in place.

And finally, here's a shot in the dark to sum it all up.

I'm missing some pics of the gun with the mag, because it's outside drying from the last coat of paint. I'll post some up when it's ready. The mag has also been upgraded, instead of my previous design to have it screw into the bottom of the gun, it attaches with a magnetic latch I foud laying around. Pretty cool huh?

Now to wrap it all up, a video I took a while back. But I figurd you guys might be interested. Check it out:

wow looks amazing, did you build it out of cardboard or pep it?

The main material I used was wood. It was a thin (maybe 1/4" thick) particle board that I had a lot of. After the pieces were cut out, I pepped the grip, and some other things, while the top was just bristol board. Then about 3 cans of Bondo and 4 of spray paint :p. Take a look at my gallery to see what I'm talking about. I'll be making some what of a tut for it when I'm done. (Using wood & Pepakura, and adding sound)

Thanks for the comment!

BEAUTIFUL!

I have to agree that particle board is great for making weapons (I made a magnum with it).

I like the pep-wood-bondo idea. I've been thinking about using a similar method myself :) .

Good work, keep it up.

EDIT:

What part of Canada are ya from?

Thanks man! Yeah, the method works pretty well, but getting fine detail using just Bondo gets pretty tough. But I've found that if done right, is way tougher than Pepakura. (Not to mention heavier! Man, I got to weigh this thing lol)

Another fellow Canadian! I'm in the south-western part of Ontario. It sucks that the "sterotypical" Canadian weather is catching up with us already. I'm cold! :p

EDIT:

Well, here's those pictures. Enjoy!

And I also noticed I forgot to mention the main purpose of my method; being able to take it apart for fixing and maintenance. You can see the main parts in this pic:

Would you mind If I built something with a similar stripping pattern? I started a few weeks ago, oblivous of what you were working on. I just want to check that you don't mind, cause some members do.

And back to method, Instead of using bondo I use a paper pulp clay called Paperclay, It goes on smooth, sands and paints well and is non toxic. I find that it really acts like wood does so I don't have to switch tools frequently. If you have any questions about it Pm me.

I haven't actually used pepakura on any of my weapons, but I do use the clay on them. I don't think the clay is a substitute for bondo when it comes to pep.

Anyways keep up the good work :).

Of course! Go ahead and do whatever you want, I would be very happy to see someone else use my techniques. That's why I want to make a tutorial for it all. Good Luck, and thanks a bunch! :D

This is just awesome mustang, I'm so glad you finally finished it. ;) This has been a long time coming eh? How long have you worked on it?

I'm very sorry to say, it's not completely finished just yet. I am happy to say though, that the final step I need to do is buy two x3 AA battery holders to power the sound and the IR LED. After that, it's the final saudering, and just a little modification for the receiver. THEN I'll be able to actually use it. But, no store in town carries the holders. So I either have to wait a while and go to a city to get some, or order some off eBay. I hope either will be quick. Since my last post, I've put in another red LED on the handle, where the cube thing on the side is. I didn't really know what it was in the game, but I figured I'd throw another LED in there for the hell of it. I'm starting to think I'm obsessed with glowing devices. (Especially blue ones... pretty....)

Hi, i'm going to make my first halo prop using the pepakura method. I was wondering, that items do you use to make the shooting sound? do they cost much? and does it tak much effort to install it? thanks.

P.S i will be making the MA5C AR, same as you i think.

Well, like I said before, I'm going to make a Tutorial on that, but I'll tell you right now anyways. All I got was a cheap digital voice module, usually $10 for a pack of two. Record the sound while playing Halo 3 (I'll recommend forge on Sandbox) or whatever, or use the Halo Armoury I made a while back.

When you have it recorded, you need to add a switch where the batteries connect. You need a temporary switch, one that will turn it on while it is pressed down. The main "play" button needs to be held down, so when you press the switch, the sound will play.

Chances are you'll want it loud, so hook it up to a bigger speaker (out of a set of cheap computer speakers preferably), and it will probably be a lot louder. Check out this video for help:

PS. I GOT THE BATTERY PACKS! Yay!
