Ok well started my first real project and making some progress. I might have chose a little more tedious way to do this than I should have but it makes it easier for me to work with it. What I mean is I decided to sand down pretty much all the paper from the pep file then build it back up with Bondo, then use that as my master to build my mold. Anyway heres the pics tell me what you think so far.

I know its a little rough around the edges but I'm going to touch all that up when I get to detailing, this is just the heavy sanding.

Looks really good so far man. keep up the good work. hope to see more pieces soon? do you plan on doing the same process with all the other pieces as well?

So been workin hard when I can and I have done most of the heavy painful sanding. Started to cover it in some bondo so I can get on to detail work. Picked up some wood working tools today and they have proved very useful for detailed work where sanding gets a bit difficult. Im using a pep file obviously, but I have found some inaccuracies so I am working it a little close to an accurate design with a little bit of my own twist, should turn out amazing.

Don't know if anyone cares but I have been making more progress although it is slow because I am changing a lot and trying to bring out a lot more detail. Curious what you guys think about what I am doing with it so far

Kind of getting a bunch of pock marks but I think I will just take care of that after I get towards finish.

Would love to here some feedback and suggestions thank you

I'm liking it. It's got some nice lines to it. It helps that it's a well designed helmet to begin with, but I think it'll look good when finished. What casting material will you go with?

The new details look great. The spot hole will be easy to patch once you get the details finished. just use small amounts of bondo to fill them in. Keep up the great work man.

I know how it feels to be where you are at Panda. you'll eventually make it to the bottom of the helmet and have it looking fantastic!

The spots you're finding are from bubbles in the bondo. If you lay the bondo down in super thin layers you won't get as many of those. Also when you finish you can smooth them out with spot putty.

Yeah thanks, putty sounds like a good less messy patch. I am making this helmet to mold off of, and I am a bit of a perfectionist. I have insisted in sanding off all the paper before I start detailing and adding bondo. Not sure if this is a preferred method but I think it makes it cleaner. It is a bit tedious, but I am really just worried about getting the other side to match lol. Thanks for the comments!

All I can say is - WOW! This is a fantastic first build! Detail lines are SUPER clean. Great work man! Keep it up and you will be out of the noob forum.

PS.
800th post!

Hope to get more done on this today but where is what we got so far. My fingers are getting callused from using the wood carving chisels ): and I finally drew blood today lol

it looks really nice so far

and I see you use a pencil to mark where you're going to put the details, I hadn't thought of that myself, such a simple but good idea

love to see more

That helmet is looking really nice what kind of tools are you using for the lines? It was very difficult to add lines like those to my helmet with a dremel.

I got some finer tips for my rotary tool that work good for carving. I also picked up some wood carving chisels that work really well. I can post some pictures of my tools later.

Although it seems not many are paying attention, I got a little update for ya. So yeah... started playing Reach campaign again and was looking at some up close shots of the helmet and took some screen shots of it. Printed some of those out and took it down to my work area. I don't wanna say I'm starting over and I still want to add some customization but there were some things that were way off. SOOO I went ahead and slapped some bondo on and Im going to fix it up some and make it a little more accurate than anything I have seen around so far. Seems like a lot of work because it is, but its my first helm and I am having to learn as I go. Since this will be my master that I mold I want it to be as good as I can get it, so all the time and effort will eventually pay off in the end.... just gotta be patient...

Unfortunately patience is in far too much demand when making armour xD

I like the helmet so far, very smooth and intricate where you've been working on it... I definitely need to get ahold of some chisels, as my dremel just doesn't clean up enough.

SO yeah finally got a chance to work on my helmet again and got a lot of stuff done today after my OCD kicked in and I covered it all in bondo lol.

So yeah its coming along but I cut into it pretty deep and had to fill in more rondo. I like the way its coming together right now, but I need to build up some more bondo on some areas and got too far cut away. The hard part is going to be getting the other side to match perfect.

One question, Was wanting to fill the indented sides with some sort of mesh material, got any ideas?
