Hello everyone, lonewolf here.

So i recently finished a halo 3 assault rifle out of foam and i am very proud of it and its paint job. (after 4 different ARs i finally made a good one) i would like to mold it now and make plastic ones so i dont have to keep remaking foam ones for my films. BUT i wanted to know if molding would ruin the paint job.

i plan on doing the silicone/wax/fiberglass method then buying some kind of resin. But i want to keep my foam one, will the molding process peel it off?

My guess is that it wont because silicone shouldnt stick to it, ive seen people use a non stick spray or something. but i dont know. Help a noobie like me please:)

Silicone won't stick to anything but itself, so you should still be good after molding. Good luck with it! :D

So i am following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKRQ-0i_vrg

i called my local plastic company (TAP plastics) about molding and this is what i have learned

1. do everything in the video
2. take off both halves of mother mold
3. cut silicone down the middle to get the two halves then place on mothermold
4. mix the resin in both halves to make it solid or hollow (i will most likely do solid)
5. when both sides are cured use more resin as glue to attach both halves

thats basically what i know but if there is anything i am missing please let me know:)

this is the resin they suggested:
