I only had two days to work on it, but it turned out well.

Only with EL wire at first:

Added the LEDs:

Now I still need to work on the handle, please tell me what you think and any questions.

That's awesome! Make a handle and it will be just about perfect.
Where/who did you buy your EL wire from and for how much?

This is where I got my EL wire from: (I bought white)

Although, I prefer these:

http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/pc-624-1...z-inverter.aspx

Costs more and you need to buy the inverter, but the wires are brighter than the case EL wire.
Also, the LED's were bought at Radio Shack only two were needed, but I do have purple, less intense LED's that you can't see in the pics.

And thanks for all the positive feedback.

Excellent job man!

I'm very proud to see someone take the informations about how to do this and use it successfully.

Keep up the good work, can't wait to see it when you are done!

Back on topic, I actually only used one layer of plastic and used a soldering iron to create a groove for the EL wire to go into.

ZOMG. I'm trying to make an MC costume with a wep, and I'm thinking of an energy sword for the wep. I NEED to know exactly all of what you used!

thats so cool...

I wish I had the talent to make that, or at least the motivation... then I'd try to find a way to make it sharp and give it electricity to shock people with tazor voltage... Mmm on second thought maybe it's better I don't try.. that could be a halloween party gone very wrong...

Here's a list of materials I used:
-A 1/4" thick Plastic sheet. I don't know the size of mine, but should be around one yard by 24-30 inches.
-EL wire and inverter (the one from jab-tech)
-9V battery and connector
-2 Purple LED's
-2 High Intensity Blue LED's
-2 100 Ohm resistors

Tools:
-One Dremel with reinforced disk
-A small hand saw
-Soldering iron with rosin cored solder
-Files
-Vice
-Goggles
-Something to score lines onto plastic
-Masking tape
-Hot glue gun

First step:
Draw out your design on paper or cardboard

Step two:
Transfer design onto the plastic

Step three:
cut, file and repeat

Step four: (no pics)
Figure out the path of your EL wire and make a path on one side using the Soldering Iron (do this in a well ventilated area) by melting into the plastic creating a groove.

Step five:
Wire your EL wire and LED's

Step six: (no pics)
Make holes for your LED's just as you did for the EL wire.

Step seven: (no pics)
Test everything out, glue down loose wiring and make a handle.

Awesome job man. Thats really sick looking, i hope mine comes out as good as yours. Im doing mine the way sean did it and i have only one question for you. How did you cut your plexiglass? thats the biggest problem for me so far. i could use my dremel but thats really slow and not very pretty cuts. Just wondering if you found an easier way.
Thanks!
