Look at the scimitar sheaths that come with cheap wallhanger "executioner" style scimitars. They cover the blade and the tip but they're open on the spine edge with a snap closure to lock the blade in near the top. Cheap? Yes. Aesthetically pleasing? Far from it! But it's a concept to work off of.
