Odst Screamers

Hi,



Well I was looking around the forums and went to see if there was any fan made movies and saw that there was none!



So, While at school I was thinking about making a fan made short film called: ODST Screamers.



It would be about two ODST that got hit and went off coarse and are in a forest were hundreds of covenant are stationed. To get out of this area they have to storm the base and get to the Radio Terminal. To call in for evac. and reinforcements. BUT! when there plans change direction and find something that has been un known and there plans backfire. So, they struggle to get out before its to late!...





Well, thats the quick go threw of the story I thought of, now I know with this post. I will have hundreds of people saying that its a stupid idea or just tell me things thats wrong with it or problems ill run into.



But, IDC......Tell me what you think and if you would like to help!

Nothing wrong with more fanfilms! So what kind of surprises are they going to run into? Or is that too many spoilers?



I'd been thinking of doing a film, I just don't have the manpower to pull it off (and only one ODST suit in the works...), so kudos and good luck to you! If you need any long-distance help, you know where to look!

I've considered doing something like this, but it's just too hard to coordinate a lot of people, all with delicate props and costumes. Most of the people I'd do it with would all go off and sorta do their own thing. I'd tell someone that this is the scene were they die and he'd go: "But I'm an ODST! I cant die! How about I fight off waves of Covie's with only a plasma pistol??"

First and foremost, a lot of people like to know where something fits into the big picture when we're talking about legacy spin-offs. What timeframe would your story take place in, in comparison to the existing Halo storyline? Before it all, after it all, Harvest, Reach, ODST, etc? It's a small detail, but can change all kinds of other details of the storyline.



I'm trying to not pry into your surprise twist here, but do they stumble on some kind of Forerunner tech that can change the war or something? That's kind of been done before. At least, races for Forerunner tech is getting a bit old. Covies could have a new super weapon they stumble across that could radically change the war on whatever planet they are on and these lone ODST have to stop it. Speaking of planet, where are they at? Besides a forest of course.



I'm more than certain that you have more on paper (or at least in your head) than what you wrote earlier as that was just a down-and-dirty synopsis. I'm really good at finding plot holes and things that don't match up very well. Unfortunately, I don't feel I am a very good writer so I am not slamming you or anything like that. Just curious as to the little things. Screw enough little things up, and it can blow up big things. So before you go and commit the time and props and effort towards its production, a solid story is a great place to start.



But I also understand you probably want to keep a lot of this secret as I said to keep the viewers in suspense.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I usually write scripts or stories based on other things. I started on a house of the dead script, seeing as the 2 officail movies were god-awful. I've got a Legacy of Kain story in the works, and hopefully thatll become a fan film in the next year or so, actors and props pending. I have pretty much a full team of 'specialists' working with me, such as a fashion student/costume department and stuff. Just need actors and for the camera man to get a decent camera, and I'll be ready to audition people.



Anyways, good luck with your fan film, and feel free to pm me if you want to rea some of my oler works from years ago, perhaps they may sway you into asking me for help if you need it lol.

Good luck man, I myself am amateur filmmaker and have done a lot of backyard special effects. Here are some suggestions that I have from my experience.



-Have decent Movie Editor (ex Adobe Premeire)



-Invest in an some sort of Effects Program, I use Effects Lab (http://fxhome.com/effectslab/pro). It will create the plasma, bullet, and explosion effects



-Remember sound sells 70% of the image. Use good sound effects and never underestimate the power of music.



-On the note of music, keep Band music to a min (Especially the now over used Breaking Benjamin-Blow Me). Instead use musical scores (aka soundtracks).



-Watch other movies and see what tricks they do with music, sound effects, and camera techniques.



Again good luck, and remember to have fun.





And one last note, plan everything, write a script and do story boards (min comic book on what events you want to take place). Nothing is harder then working on improve pieces, especially when it comes to special effects (SFX).

I think you have a good idea, I myself am$ also an amature indie filmaker. I would someday liKe to do a project. Maybe as a comunity we can pool our resources.

There are over 100 free hi res tutorials, I go there frequently to learn. And there products are killer top notch for visual effects.
