Online Rank Glitched?

So I told my roommate today to go ahead and use my xbox live account for some halo 3 multiplayer, I come in as he's finishing a match and see my rank go from apprentice (empty diamond) to apprentice grade 1 or whatever (diamond with triangle[yeah i dont play online often]) Last time I played online my rank was just plain ol private. so i play one match and it goes from apprentice w/ 1 triangle to the apprentice with the diamond inside the diamond. it shows this next to my name in the lobby but when i clicked to see my service profile, it said i was private grade 2.

is the thing messed up or is there a reason my record shows a higher ranking than the one in the lobby next to my name?

I could be wrong, but I think it's because of their new ranking system. I believe it gives you a different ranking for each playlist, but the one that shows up on your service record is your highest achieved. For example, I am a Gunnery Sergeant Grade 2, a rank I earned prior to the change in the ranking system. However, when I play in specific playlists, I have a much much much lower rank, since I've barely played since then.

yea im a luitenant grade 2 and one each playlist im a variaty of htings but mostly privates

ok thank god. thats what i figured it was.. luckily my roomates been playing non-stop lol so i've gone up quite ab it sincei posted. i might just get him to up my account all the way..lol
