Armor is really hard to construct without a body mold to make sure you have it the right size or the right build and of course its all trial and error. I am going to start producing pepakura mannaquins in all body styles if you need a body double let me know I will make a body to fit you all I need is the measurements and some time so if anyone is interested let me know.

Sounds like an excellent idea. Not only as a form for fitting armor, but they'd make kick-ass armor display stands! I'll PM you to get details.

I was thinking of getting started on the same thing although I had the intent of using the eventual final product to display the finished armour.

awsome idea man. i was gonna make one out of duck tape but this seems like an awsome idea. just fill it with sand and what not lol. pm me with what u need man =]

I agree with everyone here; this sounds like a really good idea. Would certainly help a lot of people with their armour builds. Good thinking, dude ;)

I hate being a downer, but if people are having scaling problems with armor that only has to roughly fit themselves to look good, wouldn't the scaling problems of a mannequin that has to match you EXACTLY compound the scaling issues?

Instead, I would recommend Sean Bradley's tutorial on making a packing tape + expanding foam mannequin. There shouldn't be any scaling issues since you're creating the tape mold out of your own body.

However, I have to commend you for thinking outside the box to help everyone with their scaling issues. It frustrates me to no end to spend all that time cutting, folding, and gluing only to find out that you made it the wrong size. Maybe these models can still be used for making mannequins that aren't your size? Like if you're in a group and/or making armor for someone else? Or for making a mannequin that's a full-scale 7' Spartan? That would be epic indeed.

The way I considered doing it would be to make three different body types and from there people would scale them to better fit themselves. It won't be exact for anyone but if you want something more exact then there are other things to do but those are much more complicated.

I am very interested in this. I myself was about to waste a good amount of money and try to make a body cast. Pm me if you need help with anything. My skills are somewhat limited but I can try and help anyway I can.

Ah... thanks for the link, MrOreo123... That was helpful!

Also, yes. I have to say jergenp1 is doing some great critical thinking as far as problem solving some of these issues!

ok here is the deal I am not charging for these models they will be pep ready letter format unless otherwise asked for All I need from people is the measure ments a tailor would need inseam arm spam bicep thigh chest and stomach measurements, needless to say to more info I have the more like your body I can make the pep file each one of the bodies is around 600 pieces without the head I was going to build one for me to use to test the body fit as well as a display later you can do as much with the bodies after they are built as you want to do. so if you want a body let me know I will do as many a day as I can and as far as making a duct tape dummy I can think of much better ways to waste duct tape.

What if you released the pep file so we can mess with it. Rather than you spend most of your time catering to us.

well I can release the pep file for a 5'10" person that weighs about 215 and has a thicker mid section but that's because I made it for me so I can release some simple sized models if that is what people want. now if you want them custom size ask someone or look up on google how to take measurements that a tailor would get if you don't know what the measurements are look up what they would be instead of filling my pm box on how to get your measurements I have dial up and hate to have to go check my messages for ten to twenty minutes to see how do I measure myself.

I guess no one wants some paper bodies well that's ok I asked ans soul if you read the post before you posted it says I don't have time to go look at links because of dial up so if you want a dummy let me know other wise I'm not clicking any links not needed to click.

There I did the clicking for you. Now is that enough info.

1) Neck: Measure the neck circumference. To find the base of the neck, have the person tilt his or her head forward. You'll see a knobby bone in back . If the person being measured doesn't like a tight fit here, add a pinch of breathing room.

2) Chest: To measure the chest circumference, place the tape around the fullest part of the chest or bust, under the arms.

3) Back: To measure the length of the back, start at the base of the neck and make a straight line down to the waistline (see number 6 for waistline measurement).

4) Arms:

FOR HER: To measure arm length, start at the base of the neck, then go over the shoulder, down to the slightly bent elbow and then to the wrist bone.

FOR HIM Begin this measurement at the shoulder tip.

5) Shoulders: Measure from the base of the neck (from the side, where the neck meets the shoulder) to the upper-arm bone.

6) Waist: Wrap around your waist starting from your belly button.

7) Hips: Measure the circumference. The person being measured should stand with feet together.

8) Leg outseam: Measure vertically down the outside of the leg, from the waistline to the lower part of the anklebone (or the desired hem length).

9) Leg inseam: FOR PANTS ONLY Measure from the crotch to the lower part of the anklebone (or the desired hem length), running vertically down the inside of the leg.

10) Thighs: FOR PANTS ONLY Measure the circumference, parallel to the floor.

Voila, that's it! Now, click here to start measuring
