1st Build [PIC HEAVY] First Cosplay - ODST - [ongoing]

(Mine vs original)

pretty close!

Looks like if I do a watered-down brown airbrush over the thighs It could match perfectly! Very tempting.

One thing I'm a bit worried about is the visor. I was going to build my own vacuum forming machine, but I ran the numbers it it would cost $600-$700 to build it.

I'm not entirely certain what to do about that, so if anyone's in the Edmonton, AB area that has access to one, it would be fantastic if I could pay to use it
I've managed to make mine for about $400 USD, which is still *not cheap* and admittedly I'm still working on it...

That's about $540 Canadian. I think I'll just use the shop vac at work and save a few hundred dollars that way, lol. I have some wood already, and the heating element I have in mind isn't terribly expensive. I might be able to do it for under $200, but I'll need to borrow a shop vac every time for now.

Still, I wish there was an easier way without the excess cost

I love the camo, thats really well done! And Multicam Black is absolutely the way to go for the BDUs, it just *works* with the ODSTs.
Thank you very much! I agree, the multicam does work well. Excited to see what the full armor looks like

I think you are doing great! I can't wait to see it all togeather
Thanks, Expendable!

I have almost all the foam cut and ready to be added. As well as 80% of the armor clearcoated.

Just need to figure out how to get decals without handpainting everything if I can manage, clearcoat those, and then finish up the strapping/attachment part of things.

It's very likely that I'm going to reprint the helmet, too, as I may have scaled it a bit too large for my liking.

Ok, back from a holiday and now have all the material I need to finish before October 31st... I hope.

I can now start combining foam with 3D-printed armor for the "softgoods" side of the project.

Needed to resize the inner layer because I scaled up the thighs from the template

Working on one thigh at a time so I can use the sizes to mirror the other side before gluing everything together. I'm using Berg's Contact Cement and it's working very well. However, it's no longer legal to import into Canada, so if you want some in Canada, go to your nearest leatherworking store and see if they still have stock left.

For the shoulder pads, I took one 10mm strip and one 5mm strip that will be glued together. I cut a channel out for the webbing instead of carving it in with a Dremel, which I think looks cleaner.

I purchased a cheap shirt from Michaels (a crafting store) which I'll use the fabric to cover the full shoulder pad with before gluing the webbing on. This should give it a game-accurate look.

I've never worked with foam before, so if you have any critiques and tips, please let me know! I think I'm over heat-sealing things, as some of the crisp edges become a bit rounded, for instance.

I've been watching your posts on the discord, didn't know you made a thread here lol. But, this is easily one of the most game-accurate ODSTs I've seen. Keep it up my man (y)

This is awesome! i have also been keeping up with your updates in the discord and figured i would hop over here to check it all out.

I really like the BDUs you chose for it, where did you get them if you dont mind me asking? I am making my own custom ODST suit and have been unsure about what to get

Edit: oop didnt realize you already posted a link.

How did you calculated that? I build mine out of spare wood and used my normal vacuum to produce the vakuum. I heat it up in the oven. Works perfectly and costs probably under 50€.

If I was going to spend money on one, I'd like to make it as professional as possible (not that you can't get results from the method you're using).

The cost of the vacuum is in that valuation as well (which are around $250 here).

I ended up buying one from Galactic Armory because I want to be done by the 31st of October - despite the crazy shipping costs to my country. - and also didn't want to rush on the other things.

I appreciate the support, Torrin!

The goal is to get it wearable for Halloween. But I'll still need a month or two to add some firearms (I'm thinking BR and SPNKR), among the final touches (like all the electronics).

The BDU's I chose are very high quality and I'd definitely recommend them. They come in a few different colors too, so depending on the look you're going for, you have options
