Question about mold making videos..

Wondering about these videos;

Couldn't you just fiberglass the modelling clay mold, or would you fiberglass the final product mold?

Seems like all that molding just adds unnecessary levels of complexity, unless the final product of all that is either A) the completed costume or :cool: the fiberglass mold.

If you just mold the clay, you run the risk of distortion as the chem reaction occurs, it heats up the clay melts... and so on. Also, you loss ALL detail, ecentually when you add the fiberglass to the clay sculpt you are adding another layer and the sculpt disapears. Sculpting in clay, then molding in silicone, and casting in resin, provides more opertunies for reproduction and inprovement. But there is a more higher cost in materials. I myself make resin props as a side job, but after veiwing the work I've seen here with the PEP work, I'm looking more in that direction. I mean you won't be able to duplicate a piece in numbers, but you will have a great "one off" piece.
