Well, I barely got the costume done in time for the party. Was still gluing padding and straps on an hour beforehand. Last thing I did was attach the combat knife with a couple screws. Lesson learned, start over the summer next time lol.
Got quite a bit of compliments on the suit, even though it was unfinished. Only had time to paint it black, no time for taping off and doing other colors and details, or weathering. I'll definitely be finishing it in the next couple months though, adding some weathering ideas that I came up with. The thigh pieces kept sliding down, codpiece wasnt tight enough, and the biceps kept sliding down as well. If I started earlier I wouldve had more time for strapping properly I guess.
Toward the end of the night, some drunken jackass slapped me in the chest piece pretty hard and put a nice crack in it. Wasn't too happy about that, so I partially unsheathed the knife and said "This isn't made out of paper." He was definitely surprised haha. Yay for functional armor components! The chest was too big, so I was probably going to remake it anyway. I could put it on without splitting it, with some twisting and contorting.
PICTURE TIME! (Yes I know the suit is bland-looking)
chest getting primer
helmet all primed
visor after cutting it to fit
Helmet getting the first coat of black
Finished (for now) helmet
flash kept messing up the visor's color
testing fitment before padding
padded helmet and chest armor, checking scale, realizing chest was way too big. Meh.
forearms were padded and fit perfectly
pile of armor parts as I finished padding em
chest armor with combat knife (yes its real)
FINISHED PRODUCT:
Not as many pics as I'd have liked, completely forgot to have pics of the back and sides shot, but it was a pretty small party and I was busy enough trying to eat and drink and keep the armor from sliding around haha.
Overall, I'd have to say I'm happy with how it turned out in the short amount of time. I know I could've done better if I gave myself more time, and I'll definitely work on this suit and get it weathered, or maybe go with an actual Master Chief suit next year. Hell, maybe even an Elite or Flood.
