Something a little different! Corvo Attano

Thanks to the wonderful Steam Summer sale I found myself buying and thoroughly enjoying Dishonored. I keep seeing the mask and I can't help but think, "man, that would be cool to have!" Due to being stuck in a dorm I can't start another build like I want to but I thought this could be an awesome smaller project to ease my addiction to this stuff for a little while. :p Anyways, here's what my goal is.

Keep in mind I know it won't look nearly as good as that but I like to strive as high as I can to achieve the best result possible.

DAY 1
What I've done is gone to the local hobby lobby and picked up a Styrofoam head along with some epoxy type putty called milliput. I outlined where I planned on building up the mask and other parts.

I decided to attempt and use body filler as the main substance of this mask. It's study and light enough for me, the only issue will be sanding later on since I'm quite horrible at keeping a smooth surface. SIDENOTE: I somewhat expected this, but when working with bondo body filler and styrofoam be careful where you put it, because it eats at the foam slightly (about 1/8 of an inch or a little less.) BUT that makes it incredibly easy to remove your work off the head.

That's all for today folks! I'm quite busy throughout the week so the progress will be slow. If you plan on keeping up with this, which I hope some do, I'd check in maybe once or twice every two weeks to see where I'm at. Once I get done with the bulk and move onto the smaller clockwork like pieces on the side and eyes, THAT will be when progress really kicks off. My goal is to have this done for halloween.

UPDATE

So it's been a bit too long but things have been busy on this end here. Finally I managed a trip to home depot and after picking up a collection of parts I sat down for a good while and got to work. I sanded down the rough spots with my dremel and I'll be going over it again by hand with 120 and 300 grit before paint. As previously mentioned I just got a bundle of random parts, cut some plastic here, glue this thing there and got a somewhat similar look going on. I understand this won't be 100% accurate but that's alright in my book, as long as it gives that same overall look. As always yall's criticism and advise is much appreciated, so without further ado I present pictures!

UPDATE!
The weekend is here and it's going to be a good one I can feel it. I've knocked out alot of progress so far and I think if I use time wisely I can finish this up by sunday!
One of the biggest issues doing this build was the jaw pieces. I kept thinking to myself, "what could I use to make that?" I spent a good amount of time walking around home depot and hobby lobby but to no avail. Finally today, I had a light bulb go off and I knew exactly what I was going to do. I grabbed a cheap piece of plexiglass along with other supplies and went to work. I made a rough cut out of what I think the jaw pieces would look like if you laid them flat. After cutting that out I used a wood burner to heat the seams where I wanted to fold it, much like people do during their foam builds. And so far that's worked out well. After attaching that to the ear pieces I got a little creative and used a circular little furniture thingy used to protect wood floors or help move on carpet (I can't think of what they're called at this moment, don't judge me :p) as disk on the forehead. I spent sometime with my dremel carving out a rough desgin in the center and it's not perfect but ohwell. Then painting began! I need the pieces painted so I can put them together and start stringing the gold wire through everything. So right now everything has been primed and has the right color where it needs to be. Pics for proof.

WOW! Love what I am seeing here! Like how you built off the foam head. Looking forward to seeing how this all turns out in the end. Keep up the good work.:cool

Update: Sorry guys I went out of town for a short while so I took a bit of a break from this project but it's finished, for what I'm using it for anyways. My original plan was to have this piece as a wearable piece of decoration. I wanted it mainly to hang on my wall while also having the option to be worn. Wellllllll after much work I've come to the conclusion the process I went about creating this piece was not a good way when you want to factor in making it wearable. With keeping the original shape and the proportions correct if you hold it to your face it sticks out way more that it should. Basically I wasn't thinking that I essentially couldn't add much to the inside since I had formed on something that was a bit smaller than my face to begin with. So yeah, out with the wearble option but I'm done and it will make a decent piece to add up in my dorm. Pictures for those interested.

Very Nice! I really really like this! I wanna see a finished costume bud! Great work! :eek

Are you going to do a complete costume to compliment the mask? I sure hope so.

That is still up in the air at the moment. I'm going to be starting a Halo 4 Master Chief build but I'm doing it totally different than my other builds. I will be creating a custom undersuit and seeing as I have 0 knowledge in sewing maybe working on a Corvo's outfit would be good practice before I get into my bigger projects.
