Thanks for the list. Many of these are in reasonable driving distance for me........and I had no idea that there were so many! How do you decide which ones to go to?

For most it depends on what’s in the wallet.

Yeah, monetary means kind of makes or breakers the trip....

I fully understand the monetary part, but if it wasn't necessarily for that reason, would you go to all of them, just some.....or are some cons different than others? I ask only because I have #1: never been to one and #2: have a full suit of ODST armor that I built and want to wear, but don't necessarily want to be the hulking elephant in the room of say an anime con. Does any of that make sense or does it even matter when it comes to con attendance?

You don’t have to worry about being a hulking elephant. You might find someone else with even bulkier armor or suit. The bigger the con the bigger the suits. So even if you go to a smaller con so what? Once you have your helmet on No one can see your face. So don’t feel self conscious. Just walk around and any weird feeling will just disappear.

A lot of cons will have a maximum height/width for props and costumes so you can always check their guidelines if you're worried. Walking through a crowded hall you will feel like a refrigerator and the reduced field of view will make you maneuver like one but there are always costumes that are bigger and a lot of anime characters have giant oversized props. My only issue I've had in the past is storage for armour crates, check to see if there's a coat check or bag check if you plan on getting changed into your kit at the convention center.

At nerd cons you get all sizes of costumes, usually Halo gear falls somewhere in the middle of sizing.

Makes total sense, trust me, but just remember, EVERYONE will love a cosplayer regardless of the setting of the con. That’s why we are here.

#1. Not a big deal, if I could (not having to worry about money/ responsibilities at home) I’d virtually live at cons. Big thing to keep in mind is how far out you want to go, and prices. I like going to ones all over and plan to hit one in each state at some point.

#2. Really, don’t worry about it, heck I went to a renaissance festival in my chief suit, probably will again this year. The first group I ran into was a typical vacationing Asian family/group (Hawaiian shirts, cameras, the works) and they had a blast getting photos with me for like 20 minutes (might be exaggerating a bit) but that’s the whole point, people love this kind of thing, just go with it.

Thank you! Your reply is exactly what I was curious about. While I am not rich by any means, I am at at financial point in my life and career where I can travel a bit in moderation to different places that are within a days driving distance and stay a weekend. On #2, perfect reference to my question, so I'll take that, throw on the armor and just go have a good time wherever that may be.

So I guess that makes me the equator.....I sit at work all day working on anything I can on the website, get in some actual work here and there, and when I get home, procrastinate on my builds and occasionally work on them. Confusing....right?
