if i understood corectly, use body filler instead of spot putty?

That is the regular procedure, spot putty is very brittle and you should not coat your armor with it. Use the body filler then use the spot putty for small scratches and imperfections after you've sanded

You always want to use body filler instead of spot putty first so you are right.

It's possible, but I don't necessarily recommend it. If you have any divots/holes in the bondoed parts, I'd recommend using spot putty (or even wood putty) to patch them as putty is much easier to apply than bondo. Just my 2 cents.
