So I decided to jump head first into my first 3d printed costume with a Master Chief armour set.
The print is going fairly well at the moment, with a few mechanical issues, and humid weather to make things difficult.
The files I'm using are really good quality with good details, but I'm starting to realise I haven't considered at all how to make it attach together and wearable.
You can see from the screen shots that the connecting edges are fairly thin.
I've been considering a few options to try and achieve a really stable fitting, so pieces don't appear off or shift strangely while moving around.
Some of the connections are at angles which makes it a little more difficult. I could use some help figuring out viable options to try.
My thoughts so far are:
You can see that if pivoted to open to put on, the shoulders don't remain aligned.
This is turning more into brainstorming, though I'm still at a bit of a loss. I doubt there is one solution that will suit every piece of armour that needs to connect together, but it's good to have plenty of tools at the ready.
I'd really appreciate additional ideas and methods that worked for you.
Hopefully this can help others in similar situations.

My thoughts so far are:
- Magnets: Too large for the available space, and only strong in one direction, meaning pieces might slide around (across the magnets) without suitable slot/brace,
- Fabric Straps: Too flexible for a static connection between prints,
- Velcro/Magic Tape: Good for dressing but again too flexible, maybe a big enough piece would work.
- Hinges: Pieces often aren't aligned for using hinges on more than one side (see shoulder screen shot),
You can see that if pivoted to open to put on, the shoulders don't remain aligned.
- Rubber/Elastic straps: Might be the best option, though depending on the strength might be restrictive for dressing, again pieces might shift around,
- Quick release buckle: An odd consideration but it seems the most static though maybe too difficult to use/release and too bulky,
- Alignment tabs: I thought about attaching extra smaller tabs to keep pieces from shifting side to side, though it still leaves the forwards/backward motion to fix.
