t51-b revived (WIP)
So with Halloween and next month's Fallout: NV release soon to come I've started working on my t51-b suit day to day instead of my previos 'whenever' approach. Instead of necroposting on my long since dead prior thread I figured I'd just start a new one. I'm in the final stretches of resining everything, and soon to start the bondo work. Here's a few links to what I've got done so far:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_16.jpg - Mah bucket
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_33.jpg - Bucket plus a few drain strainers that'll be added for final detail (picked up from a local hardware store)
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_17.jpg - chest piece; I can't stress enough, supports are a big lifesaver for big buggers like this. Reinforced with cardboard, of course
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_14.jpg - back valve, filled with expanding foam. Worked like gangbusters.
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_19.jpg - right shoulder
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_20.jpg - also filled with expanding foam. I was using a small crochet needle to outgass the foam, but as you can see I didn't do it for quite long enough so I've got a sunken spot, which I can always bondo over later.
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_18.jpg - left shoulder and both thighs
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_13.jpg - waist
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_27.jpg - bracers
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_30.jpg - right shin
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_25.jpg - my work space, where the magic happens. Complete with one gallon of resin
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/20100917_34.jpg - a nerf blaster I got for dirt cheap, been playing with a paint scheme. I was thinking something like this:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/sid485/T51-b/blaster.jpg
Plus the kneecaps, various disc pieces, groin and butt plate which I've left out. Got a good amount of glassing to do still.
So far from my experience I've learned that glassing (or otherwise reinforcing) parts in halves can be problematic since the bracers and thigh pieces are going to be a bit tough to get to line up completely. Probably a better idea to reinforce 'em then cut later, which I plan to do for the rest.
I'm also wondering if anyone has any good tips on armor rigging for after I finish the suit. I've bought a few yards of 1" webbing as well as 2 dozen buckles, but I suppose I'll tackle that problem when it comes. Also, any suggestions on a color scheme for the blaster? I plan to get a rounded bit to add to the front since nerf darts sticking out the front kill the prop.
