Allright, my first post, so I'll start with the much deserved suckin' up to you guy's here.

Holly S@#T great site!

you guy's are makin some great Armor and Helmet's around here.

The Tut's are great and as of yesterday my MC-helmet.pdo is all printed on 110# cardstock

I'll post some pic's of my trials and missfortune's attempting my first pep helmet.

So now the question I have is

Has anyone of youz guy's attempted Leonidas's Helmet outta pep

I came across this 3D rendering tut and thought someone of the many talented guy's here would now how to or maybe allready have rendered and or created a pdo file of this Helmet.

buy one and put the plumadge on top

Or spend a boat load and get the real thing

http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/300_The_Movie.html

IT would cost about $40 plus to make one anyway

Ok the first link for the vinyl one is just LAME. I saw those, and I don't know what I hate more, the cheap vinyl helmet or the model they chose wearing it. :cautious:

The second link is pretty good though, not too bad,

As far as the plume is concerned, I wasn't think of card stock replacing the Horse hair,

And yeah if I had 400 bucks, i would for sure buy the deluxe Helmet

I've never seen anyone make his helmet besides companies. But it cant be too hard I've seen a guy make the wraithlord mask out of cardboard. Looked perfect too.

also dont trust by the sword, they don't even make half the stuff they sell.

IMHO pepekura would not be of much use on the ancient spartan helm.
-- The round portion is not pep friendly but could be reproduced from something off-the-shelf or paper mache'd (the old mache'd balloon trick). Then apply the pep resin/glassing process.
-- The face and plume base are simple flat surfaces that could be done with some nice sturdy cardboard or check out what other cosplay folks are doing with sheets of 2mm craft foam.

I would go with cardboard and rub paper mache paste (diluted wallpaper paste) 'til it softens enough to form gentle curves like for the back of the neck flair, then let dry/harden in that position.
The rounded edge can be done with a few feet of electrical wire taped down and mache a light couple of layers over to blend it to the cardboard.

I have a stratch built spartan helmet.

Posterboard and plaster.

basicly fold the posterboard in half, then cut out the shape of the mask, wrap it around your head and glue the back, make the dome out of triangle pieces, some smaller details, then plaster and paint.

Moz, you're my hero.

Simple, but effective!

Somehow your explanation of the build makes it sound soooooo easy. Is it?

And as far as the plaster, what'd you use?

Nice job on Both Spartan Helmet's......

Since I won't be able to finish my MC suit for Halloween this year, I think I might make the 300 armor for this Halloween. Now I just have to lose 100lbs of my flab, or just get a fake muscle suit for $30. :cautious:
