Hi there! its been quite some time since I've posted anything on the forums, my last being my Ichigo mask. However I've recently been working on a commission from a friend of mine...Tobi's Mask! First of all I placed it in this section because I was unsure where else would be appropriate, and also I am considering making a mold for it later on. It is made entirely of paperclay, found at Hobby Lobby or any other arts and crafts store. On to the mask! ( and a somewhat mini tutorial)
To start off I printed off a pic of the famous Tobi and covered reference with paper clay.
I then placed the shaped clay over a balloon in order to get the curved shape. Stupid thing popped twice that's why it looks wrinkly... but third time was a charm!
After it hardened I was able to remove from the balloon and sand and smooth it out a bit. I also sketched the eyehole and designs for the swirls using a reference.
'nother pic
From there I was able to drill the eyehole out using a dremel with a sanding tip. Then I began to add the swirls, every other swirl first, then going back and filling in the onse in between.
Now all that's left is some sanding and touch up work with a bit more clay, and then finally painting. I'm very pleased with how it's turned out thus far, and as I said am hoping to read up a bit on casting these things, although it'll be my first time.
Comments and constructive criticism are both welcome! Here's a few more pics of it thus far
