Barons knowledge of UNSC:

The United Nations Space Command (UNSC) Air Force, is the aerial branch of the UNSC Defense Force. Established December 2163 as an essential component of humanity’s defense against alien forces, the Air Force plays a pivotal role in both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial warfare.

Known for its distinct space vehicles and fighter jets, the Air Force prides itself on its superior combat strategies and exceptional flight teams. This military branch uses a range of air-based technologies including the D77-TC Pelican, a multi-role craft, and the GA-TL1 Longsword, an interceptor/ deep space fighter. Their aerial vehicles offer varying degrees of fire-power and adaptability, which are essential during crucial battlefield scenarios.

Moreover, UNSC Air Force houses the Aerospace Wing which deals with air-to-space defenses, proving their adaptability not only in the atmospheric battles but in space conflicts too. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and commanded by personnel trained to tackle overwhelming circumstances, the UNSC Air Force continues to play an instrumental role in humanity's battle for survival. Thus, their resilience, flexibility, and state-of-the-art machinery distinguish them as a prominent force within the captivating Halo universe.

As Air Force (ex, 14 years) myself, I have some affinity towards the branch and would like to get to know more about the Lore and deeper existence within the UNSC. I do not know all the things related. So, i am opening it up for group input.

What Key missions did the USNC Air Force play in?

Outside of the Orbital Defense, i know they were crucial in the Human-Covenant War as well as aiding in Meridian. Did they play a larger role in the fall of the reach besides the pelican drop ships?

Not a lot of information out there; and as i scoured books, tv, movie, etc... Seems that Ranks and Operations mimic much of the US Air Force Today. Flight, Squadron, Wing, Group, etc. Is there more to this?

The Air Force is one of those things that never truly gets a direct focus on itself, but its presence is felt all across the different dimensions of Halo (games, books, etc.). For example, the F-99 Wombat UAVs that are seen in Halo 3: ODST belong to the Air Force, as do the Longswords that you see after the first AA gun is destroyed in Reach's Tip of the Spear (these are specifically an atmosphere-only variant).

There was a story that was released on Halo Waypoint recently called Winter Contention that talks about a contingent of Army Rangers that helped secure air supremacy over the Covenant during an invasion of the planet Concord. Sure, they might not be strictly Air Force, but the Army Rangers' status as an airborne unit combined with their use of the S-14 Baselard fighter (which the Air Force does use) makes them probably the most notable story role that Air Force-related units have had in recent media.

Beyond that, the Air Force's prominence really only comes through in the aircraft that they field. The most recent addition is the F-23 Falcata, a canonized version of a cut air vehicle from Halo Wars 1 that served as an older atmospheric fighter before being replaced by the Baselard. As a fun fact, the Vulture aircraft from Halo Wars is officially designated AC-220, making it a direct descendant of the AC-130. Concerning the ranks and organization, Halopedia covers them on its page about the Air Force.

Thanks - i will check out the links you posted.

Like Wraith linked, the Halopedia article is your best bet for the canonical information on the UNSC Air Force.

They are a mostly unseen force in the Halo Universe, as the vast majority of the references cited there are from Waypoint Articles, the various editions of the Halo Encyclopedia, and the SPARTAN FIeld Manual reference book.

They have their largest role in a game in Reach, where the Falcon Pilots are retroactively intended to Air Force Pilots and the Sabre Program itself is an Air Force program and its pilots are Air Force personnel. We never really see the other pilots in the Sabre missions, only hear them on the radio, and there is ambiguity as to whether the soldiers that accompany the player in the boarding action that do not disembark from the Pelican there are Air Force Pilots or Army Troopers. Some sources say they are other Sabre pilots, and therefore Air Force, and other source just call them Army Pilot boarders. So the uniform seen in Long Night of Solace might be applicable to both UNSC Air Force and Army Pilots:

Bungie Concept Artist Isaac Hannaford also did some pieces which were labeled as "Pilot," but again, whether these are Navy, Air Force, or Army pilots is ambiguous.
