UNSC Carter (Noble Carter Build)

Hey fella,

Which helmet model are you using to build your helmet? I only ask as you mention the two pieces on the top of the helmet are missing. To make an educated guess, I'm betting you're making Ruze's Commando helm, and if so, the two pieces on top are indeed there. They are separate for you to glue on afterwards, saving you messing about with teeny tiny folds. I know cos I've made the exact same helmet, and it's stunning once it's all put together :)

If I'm incorrect on all the above just tell me to put my foot in my mouth some more! haha

Anyway, I like the sounds of what you are doing here. I have a S-III build going as well, which at the minute seems to be turning into Carter as well :) So shall be following this closely.

Good luck my friend!

The helmet is the A1TD helmet. I was looking at the ruze helmet, which is spectacular but, for some reason I liked this model alot better, looked more like carter :p

Also for the helmet, I plan on getting a "new" motorcycle helmet, cheep one at that and gutting it and making the inside of the helmet look tight. Wish I could move to the future where Iam all done sanding and can paint ect, and show you guys what I wanna do with this :)

Is it bad.. that I dream about my suit lol :p

Thanx for all the great feedback and suggestions guys!

Ahhh, I see :) Honestly, I've made both and really prefer the Ruze model, but each to their own my friend :)
Also, I'm pretty sure you can buy helmet liner separately, as opposed to buying a full helmet. May save you a bit in the long run.

Good luck mate

Update....

Well... the people who thought that using super glue was a bad idea... you were right. Today was my day off so wanted to hammer into my helmet today... And well..... I had to phone the poison control board. I couldnt get the glue out because of its funky design and then suddenly it shot all over my fingers. Anyways iam ok, soaked my hands in water for a good 15 min, hands still moving. Wife went to get some stuff to take it off. So iam switching gears to hot glue method *smacks self*. I know you guys told me (scolds self)

Also.. with much thought and a few pms, iam changing to the Ruze model. So going full bore into that to try to catch up to where I was with the A1TD model. Which was all cut out. I may build it still.. just later on.

Soo, thats my small update for yah. And next time.. ill listen to yahs lol.

Cheers

Update, So started up the helmet, again this is my first ever pep. Using hot glue :) actually really like the hot glue, easily placed and you have enouph time to put the pieces as straight as you can before it hardens. So here are some progress pics.

(above: Started the left side of the helmet)

Seems to be going ok so far, some pieces are tricky but overall not bad. Hope to get more progress pics in the next few days.

Update before bed :p

Did some more, here is what I added....

Going to do more tommorow and work on the right side. Plan on getting most of the top part done then working the sides, then finally ending up with the front part to do. Hope everything goes smoothly and of course... fits *crosses finger*

Looking really good mate. That's a nice, crispy pep. Also, to avoid messy spills with super glue, you can get this kind called "control gel" made by Lotite. They make really good adhesive. The control gel is... well, easy to control. Gives a nice solid bond and some time to work with it. But hey, of hot glue works for you, go for it. ;)

Nice pictures with the little Lego guy :)

Regarding the super glue... your initial mess-up here was probably the result of bad packaging. Some of those little bottle designs are just better than others :)

I like using this stuff for pepakura, and I specifically like the very liquidy one. If you use it very sparingly on the flaps, it doesn't go anywhere (which means: no mess, just like with the gel). However, you can also pre-align objects and then pour it onto the seam. The glue is so liquid that it will be soaked into the crack between the parts. This means no rushing and better results.

I hope I'm making sense... it's a little late ;-)

Doctor Napkin (btw love the name :p )
- yeah my little incident has left me with a bad taste for super glue. I consider myself lucky that i reacted fast enouph and soaked my hands in water. Had to scream for my wife to get out of bed.. was like 7am, I made it up to her later :p but yeah the hot glue method is good. Ill have to dremel the sides really good due to the little hot glue "blobs" but eh thats alright. Thanx for the comments though, makes me feel like iam doing good so far rather doing a horrible job lol.

J450, Thanx man! Defenetly taking my time. Trust me its hard atm at taking my time. All I wanna do is hurry and get it all done so I can wear it. But I look at it this way, I take my time and in the end ill have something 10 times better :p ( I Hope)

Ventrue, Ahhaha.. if you like that check this out, was going to post it before but I thought it was corny lol. Iam not sure what happened. In the pic ill show after this, it was a really funky design. No signs of how I could poor it out, but you had to press the blue sides inwards to get it to come out... thats where it all went nuts. Ah its all good. Ill be doing other parts so your advice I will take in like others have given advice. And I appreciate it all in the same manner. Cheers

here is the pic....

ps.. this was taken after my fowl up with the super glue, these dudes made sure I didnt touch it :p

In fact, I have seen this bottle design at a store when I bought my superglue. It goes by the name of Pattex here, that brand belongs to the same company that owns Loctite. I didn't trust this, because it looked too fancy, so I went with Uhu this time (this product). See if you can find it, these bottles don't really look spectacular, but they work surprisingly well. No fountains, no spills when you knock them over and I haven't had a single one dry up yet.

hey good job on the pep work! nice and clean. You're building ruze's file if im not mistaken...i remember those parts of the helmet when i was pepping the same file. I finished the pep and i realized that the helmet is a little skinny compared to carter's actual helmet width on reach. I used some chopsticks to push out the sides of the helmet to make it a little wider. check out my thread for some reference pics if you were gonna try and do the same thing. keep up the good work!

Just another thought as you movement to other pieces, you will actually save time if you cut and glue as you go.'you won't end up having to dv through a pile of pieces for the random one you just find impossible to recover. There is also less risk of bending a precut piece. It also helps to keep up motivation. It doesn't feel like hours upon hours of nothing but cutting, or folding, or gluing. It's a nice smooth process that shows results. That's how I prefer it anyway.

Thanx Brandon, yeah Ive started that way now, seem to like it alot better then what I was doing before "cutting all the pieces out". But... ive been messing up alot. I had to redo the whole thing again. Also Iam worried about size. I want to have enouph extra room inside the helmet to put in possibly a motorcycle liner. I replayed halo reach on some missions and seen a few views of the interior. Found a nice liner that works.

But getting back into it has been hard... motivation has been lacking to get going. But I think ill print up the pages again this week and get cracking. Holidays was a big thing that cut back on time, and then back to work afterwards. But now no more excuses so hahhahah its time to get moving. Luckily I have no time/date I want to finish, though Id like to get it all done by next halloween so I can scare people...???

Anyways Ill try to get some new pics of the helmet as I go. btw sorry for the late update on this thread. I didnt think pep'n would be so tuff, but it is lol. Anyways thnx for the tips brandon, cheers mate.
