Ok no flamin for lack of information I have played a bit of the halo games but Im not a diehard so I need to ask some of the more informed here. The question is does the sniper or the BR use caseless ammo or standard cased ammo? I have a idea for a project but need to know this bit of info before I start.

And yes I have used the search but havent come up with much in the way of tech on either one besides dims and details.

Cheers!

From past experience and arms in general, I would say they use standard cased ammo. Especially since it hasn't been stated that the ammo is caseless. As was stated by box o - they both have ejection ports so they used "cased" ammo.

I happen to be a sort of Halo Encyclopedia thanks to wasting a bunch of time on Halopedia and a photographic memory I can tell you that the BR has regular cased ammunition and the Sniper Rifle has cases too, but they are flush with the actual bullet unlike today's bullets. On a side note, the Sniper's bullet splits into 4 pieces; threes "casing" shells and one spearlike bullet for better penetration.

IDK if that helps, but that is what I know.

The sniper rifle uses an APFSDS (Armor Piercing, Fin Stabilized, Discarding Sabot) version of the 14.5x114mm round. This round was developed in the Soviet Union as an anti-materiel round. Here is a pic

The round pictured is loaded with a bullet, while the round for the sniper rifle would use a sub-caliber penetrator probably made of a material like tungsten. The penetrator is held in position in the casing by a sabot, which is discarded as the penetrator leaves the barrel.

The battle rifle is described as using the 9.5x40mm round, which is probably a straight-walled cartridge, considering the volume of powder that the casing would hold. The bullet would likely be a high-ballistic coefficient type for better ballistics downrange. The 9.5mm round would probably be an excellent medium range round with good performance against armored opponents. There is no actual round of this specification, that I am aware of.

Glad you didn't get any flaming Privateer so here is an answer to your question straight from Bungie artists. Scanned from the Halo 3 art book which I highly recommend you go out and buy. Nice guess work on the BR 9.5x40mm round UNSC Leatherneck I would have thought the same until I got this book. Also the M68 Gauss Cannon that is used on the M12 warthog LAAV is considered to be caseless.

Thank you all for the help I will be goig out and getting one of those art books lol. I just needed that bit of info before I make the rounds and ejectors for a BR and sniper.

Cheers
