I have been preparing to mold and cast one of my helmets and I am surprised at the prices of this stuff. I understand that smooth on products are the best but they are expensive as well. I have seen a few other silicones out there like RTV, but I wanted to know if any of you have had any success with any cheaper silicones out there. (Note: I am trying to avoid the silicone caulking technique )

Honestly, they don't get much cheaper than Smooth On... there are other companies out there, with *I feel* better products, but alas, more expensive.

So in truth, your best bet is dropping the dough on some Rebound 25... the prop maker go to...

That's the same that I'm going to use for my halo 4 master chief helmet. And im going to cast with smooth cast 320. I heard it has less air bubbles due to a longer pot life(10 min)

If you're looking for a slightly more economical silicone, and your helmet has a low number of undercuts, Mold Max is a good compromise.
