here are some build stages

then 2 stage auto paint (I work at a body shop =] )

still some filling and minor touchups before adding final colors

super fine pieces!!! wish i had a 3D printer......Cheap bastard!!! The fact that you work at an auto body shop means you have some exp in bondo work? And what is a 2 stage paint job? You didn't bake these do you?

The printer actually didn't run much of a bill, i got a diy kit on ebay for 300$, but you can build one for about 180 if you get all of your parts from china, it still might seem a little steep, but in the first week it paid for itself with sold prints.

And yea got a lot of exp with bondo =] though i used a plastic filler (lord fusior 114LG) as it is sandable in bout 15 min and is softer and nicer to work with than bondo.

a 2 stage paint basically just means that the clear is a separate vehicle, so it has two stages of application: base (the color) and clear (the shine)
2 stage are usually more expensive but give more control as far as quality and color

and I did bake them, I am printing with abs which is workable at about 220 degrees Celsius, and I baked at 160 C so there was no warping

I am however having some issues with my primer reacting to the plastic and causing bubbles, but I am trying a few different sealers this weekend so hopefully that problem will be resolved

playing with colors today =]

not sure if I want to go with a super weathered look like this or if i want a suit that looks like it just came off the assembly line

those pieces look great! I'm considering doing a fully printed suit, but my built platform is terribly small, and would take a massive amount of support material. couple that with no way to recycle that material, and im gonna be spending a ton of money on filament. maybe one day...

what is your print volume? mine is only 8in squared (200mm square) I mostly just section my prints out to avoid support at all cost, takes a bit more playing around in blender but super worth the material

200x200x175, but more realizitcally 180x180x120. I just finished doing a Railgun (see if the forums down a bit) and that took a good bit to print and mess with.

productive weekend, picture dump

This looks great, and is about the same design I plan to use. The prints look great, which set of models are you using?

Man this is awesome! makes me wish I had a 3D printer (But that takes a lot of the fun out of it in my opinion! :lol)
Can't wait to see the finished product!

for the bicep fore arm and hand plate i used the game extract from the archive, the thighs, shins and thigh attachment i used pep files from the archives then solidified and smoothed them a bit in blender, I can shoot you the smoothed items if you like, though my modelling skills are fairly primitive =/

definitely speeds up the process, though i have been having a blast playing with sintra, thinking of an engineer issac build afterwards =]

Wow looks very clean I cant see any of the print lines in your prints great work!

thanks =] i hit my prints with 180 grt sandpaper to rip the lines down, then high build primer, then bondo where it still needs work (usually creases and corners) then 320 grt, then some more highbuild, then 500 grt then paint if there are no other imperfections, its a bit longer of a process, but worth the smooth look in my opinion =]

That would be awesome if you could. I'm still in the file gathering/ planning stage. Every little bit helps.
