1st Build Halo 3 odst 3d print build.

Started off with the silenced smg.

I think the sucker came out looking half decent.
It's the file from dungeons and starships.

Super easy to assemble and finish I loved working with this file!

Before I move on much further with the painting process of the armor, I had questions on the customizablity of paint jobs with various builds.
Effectively, what is generally ok if I want to go and do a troop in the future.
I just want to know before I gotta make a whole other costume for just trooping.

The nice thing about the 405th is that you can do pretty much any paint style you want!

For the most part the only time that people need to adhere to a specific in game paint style is when they are aiming for a higher tier in deployment (which is completely optional and not required for you to come to cons or troops). If you want to know more about deployment, have a look at the Deployment FAQs.

I originally watched the video that galactic armory posted about their kits, and I happened to have a 3d printer so I grabbed galactic's files for an odst and got to printing and sanding.

Great job filling in all the lines on the print! That's also a super smart way to make sure the top and bottom of the helmet stay together while gluing.

Now onto the paint of the helmet.
I had a slightly difrent idea for the paint job, not crazy off, but still semi stealthy in the dark.
I had the idea of running as the "tech" guy and that made me think of Sombra from overwatch's paint scheme of black with purple highlights.
Currently printing the arms, had a back log of photos so posting from here is gonna be slower haha.

Love the color combo there! Paint chipping is also done super well.

Thanks!
I plan on giving it a mineral spirit wash before putting on a clear coat, but I'm arguing with myself on if I should do a matt finish or glossy.
Thoughts? The gloss would go well with the colors and make em pop but the matt would go better with the weathering I think.

I would do either a matte or a satin finish. Satin is a bit more reflective but not a full gloss. Generally I’m not the biggest fan of full gloss because it can do funny things with weathering.

idk how hard it is to find, but my MK6 build thread I used all satin finishes and you can see how it turned out. I can also grab some pictures later. Just don’t have any handy now.

I believe that satin might be the better call haha.
Gotta have that bit of reflectivity that odst are known for in those rainy streets haha.
BTW that mk 6 build looks great and looked like a pain in the butt to get right.

Once I got the pieces together, btw using a good bit of rope is perfect when waiting for the adhesive, in this case E6000+, to set.
This is my kinda jerry rigging! And it looks like it glued up nice. Can't wait to start working on my ODST helmet again.

Went and tactically acquired the use of a cricut.
And threw some pads in there, while everything is printing I am going to try my hand at shocking myself wiring a fan into it, got a couple of spare blowers laying around!

It's gonna use a 9 volt so no worries about the build updates stopping suddenly haha!

Love the decals!

I think a cricut or something similar is going to be one of the next big things to add to my arsenal of equipment.

Just gotta take alot of care when transfering it on curved surfaces!
Sucker didn't want to stick, made me panic a number of times haha.
