Wow this is going to look wicked when its done.
How are you attaching to the under armor? In my experience spandex is a bugger to work with if you want everything to line up without bunching

With a sewing machine?

Yeah I'm aware thanks:
I have to constantly make sure that when I'm sewing, to make sure that the spandex isn't stretching and the vinyl is getting sewn where it's supposed to (at the same time, creating a clean lip/fold over the vinyl's edge).
And I'm aware of this before I started the project, but I went ahead with it anyways.

Love the undersuit Hyo!! I think this is the only project with an actual Reach undersuit in the works (at least that I can remember seeing :confused ) stoked to see it progress more and get some ideas when its time to make my undersuit :D

I don't think I'll keep that elbow padding.. I don't like it, and it's a pain in the ass to get on with the arm armor.

You can see I started installing some strapping that will be hidden under the upper leg vinyl.

I think it looks cool. I'd rather find a different way to put the upper arm piece on :)

Agreed!! Maybe cut out the inside portion of the bicep piece and replace it with something stretchy? Your undersuit is awesome so far!! Do you think the thigh pieces will make the Lycra sag when you strap them on? Just curious of how strong the stuff is. Lookin good Hyo!!!

I don't get what you guys are saying about my bicep.... It fits just fine, nice and snug, and I don't even need any strapping for it because it fits so perfectly.... I meant it was a bitch to get on because that elbow padding is a separate piece and I have to string it through and yeah... just nvm... it's hard to explain... I'll just change it up, don't worry about it. I was just fooling around with the concept; as I said before, I'm making up this suit as I go along more or less.

No the strapping on the legs doesn't drag anything down. It's attached under the the vinyl, which doesn't stretch, so it doesn't get dragged down with weight or whatever; I tested it (by pulling hard on it).

With the elbow padding, did you have to pull up the bicep piece over it or try and pull up the padding into the bicep? I don't know how possible it is but for my armour I was considering making the bicep/forearm piece into a single sleeve piece that can just be slid on, if that makes sense? Either way the under armour looks awesome so far!

I actually like the elbow pads you have there, I think they look good. But if its a lot of work getting the bicep overbthem, I understand your frustration. The undersuit can really make the armor, and yours is cominfnout great. Keep it up!

Thanks for all the comments on the undersuit so far guys!

Here's an update:
Cod piece underway, started cutting it half so I can actually get it on me
And if anyone is wondering.... I use black interfacing fabric instead of actual fiberglass.... It's waaaayyy cheaper, easy to work with, just as effective, and there's no little stray fibers to poke you and make you itch like crazy. AND, I don't have to bother painting the insides black afterwards to make it all pretty and junk or whatever.

Cut it in half.... with heck yes, a wood saw! lol If using that doesn't make me feel like a man, idk what will! (inside joke...)

Front of the cod... the crotch piece is way too curved turns out...
265154_10150707732285403_814300402_19698221_4750360_n.jpg

So I hacked that in half too!
264129_10150707732180403_814300402_19698219_1237248_n.jpg

And gonna reattached it on at this angle instead

And toe covers are prettty much almost done. Just need another round of sanding with some finer sand paper, paint job, and they're ready to attached to my boots. I used some extra tan spray paint I had laying around just to give the toe an even colour so I could see if I missed any indents/bumps, etc.

And this is what happened after sanding the thigh pieces today.... It was WAYYYY worse but I had to dust some off to go inside and take a pic. Does seem like it in the pic, but there was a LOT on me even in this pic.

Anyways, hopefully I'll be updating more often... After all, I do have two freaking suits to finish by pax (end of aug)... D:

Black interfacing fabric? Where do you get it? Is it available at any fabric store or does it have to be specialy acquired like fiberglass. I'm assuming the resining method is the same since I see it in the background of the pictures
/noob questions

Nah black interfacing isn't anything special and you can pick it up at any fabric store (provided they carry it in black if you want black). Interfacing fabric is commonly used to back fabrics and stiffen them. I just have a crap ton of extra (NOTE: If you're gonna do this, get the thinnest most flexible kind or it'll be a waste of money) facing so I was like "hmm... I wonder if this will work"... Tried it out, works like a charm. I would highly suggest to anyone with a low budget as it does help a bit.

HAH!!! I had to fix a bad curve like that once! Not to hijack or anything, but... Observe!

Nice progress, btw, look forward to seeing how this progresses! Shame I keep missing the live stream, I really want to see how you do the Bondo :(

PRRROOOOOggrrreeessssssss!!

Two toe covers and an ankle cover DONE!! Just needs to be attached and whatnot.

The 'worn' paint was achieved with vaseline!! Believe it or not, it worked REALLY REALLY WELL!! I'll do a mini tutorial thing on how to get that worn look.

Ankle piece, with just an under tone of red; so that it transitions into the red shin nicely.

Then I placed it on my boot just to give you an idea of what it'll look like. Some parts of the boot will be covered with the same vinyl I'm using for the undersuit.

Thanks Da!

So yeah.... I'm turning this thread into the WIP shots of two spartan's.... Since I pretty much have to make my bf's suit for PAX, might as well post the progress of that on here as well:

Got a thigh and a shin done, just need to do the strapping on those pieces, but here's me trying them on to see what it'll all look like together, roughly. (Knee pieces aren't done, but just held them in pic to give better idea)

I've loving how this is all looking so far!

So that is why the front of the boot was a darker colour than the back. I thought that was some camera glitch :)
Looks nice!

I've never thought about using Vasoline, I've used toothpaste which leaves behind a thin layer... and a nice minty smell lol
