Congratulations on completing the primary armor, thorn696! I've been happy to see your progress up to now and am glad you were able to finish within your schedule (before HALOween). Whatever secondary elements you add will be icing on the cake.

With any luck you'll be able to provide some pictures of your first tour while suited up. Have a great time on October 31!

Here's a few better pic from a different camera. Shows off the color a little better too.

Great Job Thorn! The details and the paint job look fantastic! Looks like it right out of the game.
Thanks, King Ramna.

I was also wondering if anyone could post a link for the motor-cross armor? I know I seen some in a build a while back but I'm not sure what one it was. Thank you in advance.

In other news:

Well I'm counting down the days to Youmacon here in MI and was wondering how people from the 405th are going to be there? I've seen a few on there page, but no conformations. I'd love to meet with what ever group is going.

here's the link to Youmacon.http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=htt...QBPcgNSAQCJC_sFFwOvz0waLQDr3pIJUKUK39d2XAP6_A
and the link to there forums http://www.youmacon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=9449&hilit=Halo

The 'standard' moto-cross armour used for Halo costuming is typically made by sixsixone such as this: http://www.amazon.com/SixSixOne-Vap...ZPW4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319147915&sr=8-2

Poke around Amazon and you are sure to find variants of moto-cross armour that will suit your price point and style. I used one something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Pr...?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1319148582&sr=1-194

Ah Roadkiller you beat me to it. :)

Thanks for the intel gent's it helped allot, But I need to take it one step further.

As I'm looking at this "mesh" how durable is this stuff? reason for asking is for my mod's I'm thinking of bolting/riveting the forearm and biceps right to a set motor-cross armor. By doing this I will get more freedom of movement in my upper body. Then I'd like it to be a good base for the foam work on the front plate.

Yes I'm pre-planing the mod's already. :D I just can't start them till after the con.

The fabric of mine is some sort of spandex, stretchy and pretty durable, but you won't be bolting anything to it :) The "armour" in mine is similar to EVA but a bit tougher, sewn into the fabric at strategic places. I've seen those with plastic pads and elbows, etc, that stuff is similar to the grade used in hockey gear.

I've bolted to the plastic pads before and they hold up really well but I've never tried attaching things to the EVA style. I would say that if the pads have the plastic plates down the arms then you should be okay with bolting them on.

Thanks guys, Between the two of you I have a pretty good idea of what to look for now. Thanks again for taking the time to help. :)

In other news. First Halloween party was great suit worked out fairly well.

Seeming as the two upper pouches keep moving around I think that I'm just going to remove them. What do you all think?

This thing is just great buddy. When it comes to the pouches, I can see where you would have problems, especially when moving around. Overall though, I don't think they look too bad on there.

Thanks for the input Matt, every little bit helps.

And here's the build as of right now. I set this up so that I can zoom in on it in a viewer, to show how I made this armor. And/or proof of concept that I DID make this armor and didn't buy it in a store..... Yes you read that right. I seem to have a hard time getting people to believe that I made my armor. I did send one idiot to "Toys R'us" to buy a set lets see how that works out for him. ;)

Hello thorn id like to say your work is very clean. Nice work. I would like to ask your opinion on foam vs pep? I have not used foam yet.

Hilarious.

I like the montage image. Did you put that together yourself? I know you use Photobucket, I wonder if there is some application that will pull together images live you'd done here. It'd be cool to put up a large-scale poster-type print of something like that (most likely suitable for a man-cave only).

Hello thorn id like to say your work is very clean. Nice work. I would like to ask your opinion on foam vs pep? I have not used foam yet.

I've done very little in the way of uncasted foam. Most of the foam work I've done so far has been 2 part cold foam. Of course that will change this winter when I start on my under suit. That said this is my first time using resin so it could of been the other way around.

Not what you were asking...ok here's my take on foam from reading up on it. Foam is allot cheaper, Liter, more flexible, and more comfortable to wear. It just take a bit to get used to working with it. So if you want to start with something different go foam.

If you want something ridged, that comes out really smooth and is very forgiving, do to the fact you can always add more resin/rondo. It takes paint well, and can be very strong. It just take a bit to get used to working with it. Then go resin.

If.....If, I do another armor build then I will try foam next. As for props and things that get allot of handling, I will go with the resin.

I hope that helped answer you're question.

Properly AWESOME !

I used Photo tag Express to make this one. I think there's a free version of it not sure tho it came with my camera. And yes I'm printing out 2 mid size to use for costume contest and 1 poster size for my office wall.
