I am so happy with how this turned out.
Again I was in talks with Asgardianhammer through this whole process who has helped be make the design not suck (my attempts were *bad*)
Now I supposed I have another 6 to make for the US regiments, Then start looking at international ones
Also since I can laser cut stencils with high precision I don't need to worry about the small letters! But not too small, don't go crazy people :p

So thrilled with these signs man. I can't thank you enough! We may have some other ideas for this method in the future ;)

I received permission to post this so I am happy to show you all my process from my discord post!
I made a replica of the 405th logo from the standard materiel from my work, 12mm pressed PET felt board.

Under normal circumstances this material is used for acoustic dampening but I have a bunch of scrap that i save up for fun occasions, like this!
I created a layered pop-up effect by milling out pockets for hidden inlays and have the main logo be higher than the background.
These parts were cut on a precision CNC machine utilizing an oscillating blade to make it as accurate as possible
To ensure that the Logo takes visual priority I made the black text flush to the surface of the backer.
This one is a foot high. and around 4 feet wide, only weighs about 5lbs.

The colors were achieved by cutting the different parts out of sheets of different colors before assembling the final product

This was mostly a first pass so there are a few small errors that I will fix on future versions, which will include increasing the border size in accordance with the identity guide.
I would love to make one of these for each regiment but I know that any creations will require the approval of Asguardianhammer before I make any more.
also there is slight limitation on the colors I have available.
For the above I used 4, 20, and 24. The blue color was from an off-cut part that we don't typically stock

This was a lot of fun. I hope to make more
Wow, that looks fantastic. I love how it's felt!! How long did it take to make that?
And you said you did it at work, what do you do? I'm so intrigued

The actual cutting of it takes about an hour of machining time. I am planning on filming a time-lapse video of the making of the standard sign, as I already made one of the Southern Variant (its on my Instagram, link in bio).
My standard work is as a CNC programmer/operator for a company that makes acoustic products. Specializing in the PET felt board, which is soft enough to dampen sound and reverb but rigid enough to hold shape for stuff like this :)

I have semi free reign to experiment with scraps I hoard so when I use it to make goofball creations. The above is a good example, I also made a to scale Minecraft Creeper, and the Hyrule Shield from The Legend Of Zelda!
