well yesterday i discovered a molding and casting brand that hobby lobby carries REGULARLY!! i just need to know if this stuff is any good, silicone and all.
I remember some testing videos that Ithica and Das Brutas did a while back with some hand plate casts of this stuff. They threw it way up in the air and landed on the driveway with barely a scratch. Not sure where the thread is now (probably in the video section?), but it'll probably turn up in a search.
I use it. Good, but it really needs a de-gasser for the silicone. And it's more expensive than rebound. And it's only for pour molds. The plastic is great, but it has a very fast cure time and air bubbles get in there like crazy. I think smooth-cast 300 is a better choice, but if it's a lot cheaper, it might be worth it.
If you go to he hobby lobby web site, you can print out a 40% off coupon, then give it a try. Never used it myself but have heard good things about it. Use the coupons on all kinds of stuff.
I used it before discovering the Flexfoam-it... Its good for what I wall the "weak areas" like the sides of the torso, the vents on top of the back piece, ya know - things like that... and it's black! Great for painting... BUT the price for a full suit is a bit much. To do a complete suit it would be better to use the smooth cast stuff with some color dpips added in...
If price is no object? Alumilite is the bees knees! hehe
Here's my first pull from Adam's chest mold from over a year ago:
I've tried it in small resin parts for some of my gundam kits, like custom weapons and parts.
I this sound weird to use but i used an older kitchen aid mixer to get it feally fine before i poured it, it acted like quickcrete imo. I also casted dummy round for my 45 with it for training purposes(so i can dry fire and not damage my revolver). To me it seemed to be about as heavy as my handpack rounds. Sorry didn't mean to run on. Like Brutus said, Unless $ isn't an issue. this stuff is way too expensive to make an armor out of. Thats my Opinion though.
I got mine at HL also. I also used it to make joint parts for my larger scaled models, Like knees and elbows that wear horribly, this stuff doesn't wear away. Dunno if this helps you at all.
