Consider practicing your blackwashing technique on a painted scrap piece until you are satisfied with the results before trying it on a finished armor piece. Good luck!

To add onto what spitfire said, you may want to look into alternative black washing methods. I know theres one or two tutorials on the site that explain it and Volpin did a tutorial (kinda) for his ME3 rifle. May want to look into those.

Yeah, i have some pieces to practice on. Temp will be better friday, might try it then. I'll look for those tutorials too. Ordered my 3d clear and gold motorcycle visors from westerfield studios a month ago and they still aren't here. I was gonna finish the helmet for the speech on wednesday, but if i don't get my visors, that isn't gonna happen.

Here are some more old pics.

codpiece kinda looks warped here, but it's just a shadow. this is one of my straightest pieces yet.

here you can see the warped bicep piece. it doesn't really look as bad as it does in this picture. If I didn't know it warped, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It is smooth as glass too. all of the lines are spot on.

Codpiece had some fiberglassing issues which are not pictured(fiberglass fell from part of the crotch and right side of the belt), but I'll get that fixed up tomorrow or friday. I'm really at the mercy of ohio weather. I have a furnace in my garage, but I'm afraid... sorry... my mom is afraid that the flammable gasses from the bondo are going to explode from the pilot light on the furnace. I don't think there would be a high enough concentration for such an explosion, but my mom doesn't really care.

So far the back of the codpiece (butt section) is double fiberglassed with cloth. Gonna hit it with a layer of mat too. I wanna be able to sit in this thing.

I've given up trying to have any significant part of the armor done before my speech. Might strap up the shoulders to the bodysuit to show how that works.

Also picked up one of Tactonyx's (think i spelled that right) magnums. Holy crap. When i saw the detail i couldn't believe it. That will hold me over until i do a balls out assault rifle.

Still pepping the helmet. Lots of homework and such lately, plus my pace has been slow. I have the top done from the sun visor to the last ridge of the reverse mohawk, and the jaw as well. Went to SW Ep 1 last night so i might not eveb finish the helm tonight (sleep instead).

Yeah, it was. I got back to my car and there was a note on my door with two phone numbers and the matching names. Didn't ever see my lightsaber being something that would attract female attention, but whatever.

Paint/Black-wash. Use Acrylic paint it's water based. It comes in a bottle and will clean up with water. You thin it with water I'd say use a 75% paint to 25% water for you're first time using. If you don't like it just wash it off with water. Second part to using this method is to clear coat to seal it in. I use a mat finish and two to three coats to protect all my parts. And finely I use a painters box to paint in. Its just a old card board box that is re-enforced and has a rod to hang things on. for bigger items I just hang them from a tree (spry paint away from tree).:)

thanks for the tip, I'll look into it. I have krylon clear enamel too. best of the best clearcoat. Haven't made much progress in the past few days. It has been cold (less than 25 degrees), I have been tired and bogged down with work and school. Gonna try to finish up the helmet after I workout tonight. I have the top done back to the last dip in the reverse mohawk, the back of the neck done, and the jaw done. Shouldn't take too much longer. I just have to focus.

Holy crap does the helmet take forever. It is going to be a breath of fresh air when i redo the forarms and do the legs. I have the jaw, top back to the last rib, back of the neck, and the entire wrap around done, but 1000+ glue tabs is insane. After the chest, everything else should be cake.

Writing a speech on how to build pepakura armor for class tonight. Due tomorrow. Found some good filler book sources about fiberglss resin, bondo, and origami. I have 4 days of good weathe 1 week from today. I am going to have the chest peped by then even if i have to call off work for a day.

Wish me luck.

Speech is today. Gonna be pretty sweet. Just wish i had more time to work on the suit before the speechm. Would havr been cool to enter in the suit.

They loved the speech. Also... *drumroll*

Still need to add the floating faces (once I figure out where the not so obvious ones go) and do the support struts. Gonna leave out the visor if the struts work correctly.

Gonna move on to something easy the next few days. I have 45 degree weather and batter all week, but I also have a calc test (take home part due wednesday, and in class part on friday) that I have to worry about. I also have to finish my client's lightsaber (I just didn't feel like working on it in the cold garage, and he understands that). I hope to have the helmet through bondo this week. That is a realistic goal. I just have to worry about not bondoing in places that don't need it by accident. Just the top and jaw really. Everything else looks pretty dang good.
