Armoursmith Dead?

Here is the official website:

And the location to purchase:

Both are still working for me.

That said, Official support and updates for the program have ended from the creator, but there are many communities dedicated specifically to ArmoSmith Troubleshooting, as well as our own community that can help you navigate the program even in the absence of formal support from the maker.

The Facebook armorsmith group is probably the most current and active group of users for this software.
Here is the FAQ for its current status, common questions, links and so on.

Thank you,

Seems alot of links floating around the internet have "the" infront of armouredgarage.com causuing a 404 error.

Not that I am not willing to fork over $40, but can blender just be used as a free version of armor smith? Had the program been updated or atleast still supported it would be a no brainer.

Thanks!

Honestly, at the moment, Armorsmith is going to be the most efficient way. It has features and tools that no other option currently has, like adjusting the transparency of your armor pieces to see how they are fitting over your digital avatar to see any pinch points or overlaps and was designed specifically for use for costumes. I understand the up-front cost might seem a bit of shock, but it is widely reported by users of the program that the cost of the program was easily offset by the savings in not wasting filament on mis-scaled items. Honestly, the vast majority of folks here are going to tell you to use Armorsmith. Most threads that start with someone asking for alternatives usually end with the OP buying and using Armor Smith. There is just nothing like it out there right now, paid or free.

There are folks who have used Mesh-mixer and Blender, but it means learning those programs, and several folks who used that method for their first suit would then use Armor Smith for their second suit.

Galactic Armory is currently working on their own Armor Smith like program, but it is still in the Beta stage, and it will also be behind a paywall, and there is not a firm release date planned yet.

I'll give my two cents here.

To be completely honest It depends on how you're building your suit if its worth it or not. If you're 3D printing your suit then probably not. you could totally just follow Kaespoon's (Tutorial) Obtaining and importing a 3D scan into Armorsmith tutorial except instead of importing it into Armorsmith you import it into blender and scale your armor that way.

However if you're wanting to foamsmith armor. Armorsmith or pepakura designer is heavily recommended... I would personally always recommend a body scan cause then you don't get the inconsistency of the Armorsmith avatar. It really does help with scaling foam armor.

HOWEVER I've recently found that Armorsmith is pretty difficult to see detail in. So to really finely adjust the scaling of an armor set i exported the PDOs as an OBJ/STL and imported it into blender adjust the fine details.

I built my first suit using Armorsmith. but the lack of support and proper polish is making me stray away from the software altogether. If you don't have the spare money lying around you can totally do away with Armorsmith as a way to scale armor.

It would probably be beneficial if I make a tutorial on how to scale foam armor in Blender.... Especially since i've got a good grasp of how it works now.
