If you really want a good rusting affect with chipping metal effect what you could do is take a little brown and red pigment paint. Mix it with white paint. Paint it on and either use a blowdryer or heat gun to make it crack. Then peel it off in a few places showing the other paintjob you've already done causing a nice 3-d rusting effect.
