BLOXX3R’s Spartan-III build, 3D Printed

Hey there everyone! I think it’s time that I finally post my own progress over here. I’m currently working on my own custom Spartan-III armor from Reach. I’ll attach a picture that I’m using for reference for my final product. I’ve made some significant progress so far, and have completed printing the following:

- Mark V helmet w/ CNM module
- Complete left arm w/ Mark V shoulder and UGPS forearm
- Right arm w/ FJ Para shoulder (might swap to Mark V, would love to make the shoulders modular if I could figure out a way to do that)
- Chest armor, no attachments yet

I’ve also printed a M6G model from Thingiverse, and a combat knife that came from my armor files. All of my files I purchased from NerdForgeDesign, and I couldn’t be happier with how they’ve come out so far! I’ll be updating this thread occasionally with any progress I’ve made! Also any questions or feedback that any of you have would be greatly appreciated, as this is my first time building a full-on suit of armor like this.

So as I said before, I am using NerdForge's files for my armor. In his files he has included some models to use as molds for some rubber under suit parts. I've been gaining a basic understanding of how to mold/cast stuff in rubber through YouTube, and I'd like to give it a try, but one model in particular that is confusing me is the one for the gasket on the chest piece. Does anybody have any experience in making a piece like this, or now anybody who has?

I'm using nerdforges models as well, but I didn't get that gasket. I got another one from a seller that modeled it to fit nerd forges model.

I'm looking into doing some molding and casting rubber bits but too late for my current build now

I actually picked up that gasket file as well, however when I printed one out and put it on for a test fit, I personally thought it didn't look the greatest with my build, as the Mark V pieces are a little more low profile, and that gasket piece is a bit more on the bulky side. It also heavily restricted my movement, more than it already was, which is why I'm hoping to figure out how to make the rubber bits lol

You're right on the restricted movement. I just accepted my fate, though it's still an improvement over my last build. I'll be keen to see your finished version

As someone else who Runs the Mk. V helmet I'll be watching with great interest. As for making the shoulder sections swappable, I used some Velcro on the inside of mine to allow a bit of flexibility and to have the option to swap them but with the hollow section, that most of my shoulder files from nerdforge seem to have, a magnet wouldn't be a bad option either.

Perhaps you could unfold that file and make it from foam? If you use black foam, you probably wouldn't even have to worry about sealing or painting it

Man, not enough Mark V Reach variants out there. I always forget how beautiful of a bucket it is design wise as well as practicality for electronics and filtering. I've heard a lot of people utilize either rare earth magnets or chicago bolts/screws to make mounts for their armor to be modular!

Hello! Sorry for the lack of updates, this project isn’t dead though, I promise! I’ve actually got a bit of progress to share! I haven’t done too much more of the armor itself just yet, although I did recently resize the biceps and I’m very happy with how they came out, other than that though, I split off from the armor to print out the S7 sniper from Infinite. That’ll me my main weapon that I’ll rock when I’m out and about. I know it’s not the Reach one to go with the armor, but the file was too beautiful not to pass up! Other than that, not too much progress. Hoping to get the legs scaled and start printing them here soon!

Speaking of sizing the legs, anyone got any good tips in that regard? They seem like they’ll be a bit more of a pain than the arms, and I don’t have enough filament left to make any more big mistakes lol

Finally got my thigh armor sized and on the print bed! Should have both of them done within the next couple of weeks! Until then, here’s a few pics of where my armor’s at with the updated bicep armor and my “finished” sniper! I’ll get that Mk. V helm wearable at some point soon here as well!

Also, I’d really appreciate some input here, after printing the calf and it’s attachment, and looking at some reference photos, I can’t really tell if the attachment is too big or not. I think it looks alright, but what to y’all think?

To those who 3D printed their armor: How'd you size the boot covers? Armorsmith makes it a little difficult to get a decent guesstimate.
CURA has handy little centimeter markers on the virtual build plate that I used to measure the dimensions of the different parts. Can't speak for other slicers/software but I'd be surprised if they don't have something similar. I took measurements by hand for the boots the prints would sit over to compare and thankfully Moe's boots in their thingiverse collections fit perfectly over my size 10 work boots as they were. I compared the widest and slimmest part of the boots and prints to be sure everything would fit. You might be able to trace an outline if the shoes you plan to use and print just the first layer of the cover to get an idea too.
