As the title states I was wondering if any one knew if you can melt styrene sheets with out any special equipment. I want to use it in a knife mold I'm making so info would help thanks.
Molten styrene won't work as a casting material. You would be much better off using a mixture of fiberglass resin an bondo, it works great as a casting plastic.
The problems with styrene are:
Melting it creates toxic fumes
It will bee too sticky to pour
it will cool very fast and when hot will cause nasty burns.
Ok quick question are there any pre colored fiber glass resins in silver. I really don't want to paint the knives when I get down and want a nice steel look to them. Also to the other post I don't think a vac-form would work to well with a knife cast.
