im gonna clay over my MKVI helmet then mold it but i dont know what clay to use....
....i had 25 pounds of water based clay laying around that Ithica informed me that
it would dry and crack so i crossed that one out....but i found some wax based clay o_O
would that work? (hobby lobby is kinda far and i dont feel like driving an hour both
ways to pick up oil based)

Straight up wax in that of itself should work for what you want to do with it. You don't really need clay to make a figure, it's just the cheapest way to go.

Microcrystalline Wax should take care of what you need though for the size that you'll be making. Just use an armature to start with so that you're only using a thinner layer for the shape & detail.

Oil base, wax, what's the diffrence?! First off, why are you claying over your MrkVi helmet, is it bad or does it need work, or do you just want a lcay model of it. I say don't put clay pover it, unless your fixing some tiny parts, like Ithica did with his Hayabusa helmet.

JUst post of pic of your MrkVi helmet, and we'll tell you if you should put clay over it thatn rather mold it how it is. Plus you can use bondo to fix it up

well thanks for approving the wax based clay.

im not gonna put clay over the entire thing lol. just in a few areas
to clean it up so the mold will be better. im also starting to work
on my helghast armor which im gonna use clay for so i needed to
know if wax based would work

I use oil based clay for almost everything. The wax based clays are a little difficult to get a handle on. It can be sculpted when its hot (soft) but its mostly carved. I was wondering if anyone has tried sculpy on a resin peped piece. Sculpey can be hardend in a regular household oven. Might be dangerous with the resin though.
