I am currently raeding the book "fall of reach" by Eric Nylund. Its AWSOME!!! HOWEVER, I spotted a typo in the chapter titles (The year the chapters occur ) From chapter 23 all the way to the epilogue it says 2542 , when the actual date is 2552 (as we all know) . You can find this in the "Solidarity" Section of the book. (NOTICE : THIS IS THE 2010 EDITION OF THE BOOK I AM SPEAKING OF, THEREFOR I CANT GARUNTEE THAT THIS MISTAKE IS IN THE ORIGINAL) - Its a little thing I spotted and I thought everyone would find interesting.

Jacob.

I read the old series but i heard that they were changing some parts of it due to the new game. Is that true? But the old series is awsome.

havent read first strike yet buut i have the 1st two original books and i couldnt find any typos in the years or anything I WANT THE NEW SERIES THOUGH!!!

Just had to pop in to say that "countinuity" is the best original number pun I've read in a long time. Bravo OP. Made me LOL.!

Going to have to remember that one.

It has been confirmed as a typo, not a continuity issue. How they let such a major typo slip by is beyond me.

bumping this to see if anyone got the new release after August 3rd??...Reason being as it would be VERY wise that Bungie would do a few rewrites so then they can claim they didn't break canon with the game. I mean the books ARE based off the games, so if they did a rewrite, it wouldn't be THAT bad and still be a great story, perhaps even a better one.

so yeah anyone?

Well, according to facts, Reach could be what ever the hell it wants! The game came first so in turn what they do with the game is canon. the list would go like this

Game, Books, Legends, Movie (if there were) basically the game comes first. What they do with the game is canon.

Keep in mind, at the time of its publication, Halo had not even been released yet, and nobody expected a videogame tie-in to turn into a new york times best selling franchise. Nobody at the time was thinking multi tiered continuity franchise. The editors probably just didn't put as much care into as the later entries.

This seems to be the defacto rule modeled after the EU of Star Wars, but just to be clear I don't think Bungie and/or 343 industries have ever officially set a canon hierarchy.
I say this because it's important to keep in mind that a lot of the official timeline information we get doesn't actually come from the games, but from books or other sources talking about the events of the games...so it can be somewhat tricky to reconcile.

Speaking of continuity errors, has there ever been an explanation for how ODST has the schism take place before Regret's ship even leaves slipspace?

Truth ordered the brutes to go there, I think it's on halopedia, might have to look hard.

i noticed the typo also, but i would also like to know how that slipped in there like that.

just wondering did anyone have to go back and check the dates and re-read some pages the first time they read ghosts of onyx, cause i did(many times). LOL

thats a really good point. im sure bungie had a reason for doing so. but it may have been that the brutes were not fully integrated fully with the covenant yet, or it could have been that they were fighting in mombasa on their own agenda after the carrier jumped.

What I would like to know is why in halo 2 are the odst helmets different than in Halo 3 odst (Which takes place the same day as the first mission of halo 2) .
