I wanted to make a quick new prop to bring with me to Halo World Championship 2025, so I decided to make a sidekick! I used files from Skookum Props.
Initially, I was going to make another pizza prop and have it be my "side piece," but there wouldn't be much time to hydrodip before HWC. I'd also want to be able to pace myself on my next hydrodip project so I can make a proper tutorial. So there will be more pizza in the future!
For now, I decided to look through the coatings in Infinite to see what else would be interesting, yet fast to make. I saw the Plumfire coating and thought it was different from what I usually go for while still looking good with my armor.
I was a bit in a rush for this project, so heads up, not many progress pictures.
I printed the parts in PETG and resin for the smaller parts. The PETG parts were sanded with 80 grit, coated with a thick coat of filler primer, then wet sanded at 600 grit. The resin parts were left unsanded.
Then each part was sorted out by the 4 main colors being used and put into their own corners on my paint tarp. All parts were primed with white Rustoleum primer. Then I sprayed each section of parts their respective colors. The 4 sections was so I could paint all the parts their correct color at the same time without over spraying onto each other. Mainly for saving time.
Once the paint was dry, I used JB Weld plastic epoxy to adhere the parts together. For sections with larger gaps, like the flashlight or bottom of the mag, I used JB Weld steel stick.
The colors that I quickly grabbed at Home Depot did not match the in game coating as close as I would have liked, but I was working with what I could find on short notice. This is where I decided I would go a little extra on the weathering than initially intended and add graffiti. The decision for the graffiti is to match the subtle cyberpunk influence on my rakshasa suit. The graffiti was painted on by hand with acrylic paint. All graffiti was done in one go with no redos in order to keep authenticity. Once the graffiti was done, I used Rustoleum semi gloss clear coat to seal the paint.
