I cut the main piece out of 1/4" stock, and the base is 3/8" plywood. And there's a piece of 1/8" dowel.

The bolt itself is a piece of 1/2" dowel, (I don't recall how long it is at the moment. I think about 6") and it rides in a 1/2" ID (inner diameter) PVC pipe, and is spring-loaded. The back side of the bolt, as well as the section of the barrel is slides against, are shaved flat for a smoother ride. The charging handle is 1/4" dowel for the main shaft, and a piece of 1/2" plastic pipe wrapped in screen mesh for the thicker part.

I originally designed the DMR to be able to house airsoft internals, but the bolt mechanism and the breach block ended up getting in the way of were the gearbox would go, so I left that part out of the design. Plus I don't know enough about airsoft internals to take mine apart and try to modify them without the risk of breaking anything.

You can get a decent Chinese-made airsoft gun for a little over $100 to mess around with (some have decent internals too).

I know there's more than a few of us "airsofters" milling around this site, so don't hesitate to ask if you need tips or anything.

I guarantee that if you whipped up some Halo-Battle-Rifle-airsoft conversion kits, they would sell like hotcakes!
