Troll, from Urban Dictionary

1. troll
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

For example, our forums used to regularly recieve porn spam. These included links to "porn" websites with viruses. As do the spam we recently received, which contained links to fake free consoles.

HOW TO DEAL WITH TROLLS:

First off, DO NOT FEED THY TROLLS!. By this, I mean to not post in the topic. Hit Report and get it locked.

Mods will close the topic, delete it, and IP ban if they are certain they are purely spammers/trollers. An example is when someone purposely posts stuff about recasters, just to spark up arguments.

how does ip banning work? i mean, you can just run dhclient and get a new ip... does it use the mac address or something?

The tools that most of the moderators here have are for prohibiting a particular user account from posting or signing in to their account.

For more extreme cases Adam can ban certain IP's from ever signing up.

but that will only work against those that have static ip / never turn off their computer

at least with my isp, you get a new ip each time you ask for a dhcp address... and i know that gentoo's ifconfig port forces a new one each time, so im just curious how this is an effective method for banhammering o_O

so lets say i get ip banned for whatever reason, i just restart my computer or something, and then i get a new ip and can post again  ?

or you could be behind a proxy (eg wireless) and not have to worry about it

just curious, it must be banning a certain mac address, it cant be the ip
