Ender, do you think that you could PM me the numbers you used to scale your armor? either that or the actual files. it just sems like we are about the same size, soooo....
I'll see what I can do PM me your e-mail and I'll send you the files (easier than going through each to find the height/scale)

No problem, I wish I could just get off my lazy butt, and start fiberglassing my Mk. V armour. :cautious:

Haha, I hear ya, I'm usually a lazy pile, but I can't afford to do it now ><

Another update (56k killer)
I followed poopers advice about paint color (and his link to a weathering tutorial) here are the hand plates completely done.

Here's a forearm base green:
IMG_1029.jpg

I made alot of progress with the helmet today, added vents and the vent grills (from a magazine holder i got at walmart) I also bored out the LED holes for the big 10mm leds.

Test fit of visor:

I finished up a boot today. For the longest time I couldnt figure out how to get the upper boot to connect to the lower boot. I ended up chopping up my old rollerblades for the buckles: they actually fit the design quite well, and JB weld holds like crazy:

They're a bit small but I think it should be ok, the good part about this is I can adjust the tension :)

I forgoed the bondo on the thighs (time and it really didnt need much work) and primed them:
IMG_1039.jpg

I got one of the shins glassed today as well (I'm starting to HATE glassing stuff... :/ )
IMG_1043.jpg

And after bondoing the HELL out of the back chest piece (I've never wanted to kill this thing so bad) I got it primed:

And I got the ab piece weathered and finished too:

Thats about 12 hours of work there; another 12 or so tomorrow >< my arms hurt so bad damn fiberglass is poking them... ow... ow... ow!

Thanks, yeah bondo is a royal b!tch. Especially when it leaves these weird pits (looks like a whole bunch of mini bondo eating termites went to town on it...

Lol thanks, I'm going to try to put a fan in there somewhere and duct the air out the top vents.

Forearm: The forearm is a bit dark, but i found out a light scrubbing with steel wool will lighten it up easily.

Nice work man. Love what you've done with all the little details. Got a question. When you were testing the visor with the helmet, was there any space between the two or were they flush together? I seem to be having a problem getting them together.

Theres a bit of space between the two, I'm thinking of a way to flush the two out but I'm not sure, nor am I sure how to glue the thing in place, caulk might work...

I've heard of people using stuff from hot glue to velcro to secure the visor in. As for the space, it really bothers me. Makes for some nice ventilation though. lol
Might be able to shape the helmet space more... But I like the idea about caulk.

Mini update: finally got working on the part of the suit I like the most: the lights :) Currently there are 2 LEDs with a 100 ohm resister in series. Here is a pic with the flash off:
IMG_1064.jpg

And here's the wiring.
IMG_1068.jpg

I'm going to make a box out of bass wood and hot glue it around the LEDs to block the light, then paint the box black to hide it.

Hey hey update!

Well a majority of the suit is painted, though I have to cut out the plexiglass for the lenses (which im stumped on) and the wiring/padding yet.

One of my friends came over and helped sand some pieces for me while I worked on cutting and what not. When I wake up later today I'll have the shoulder and boot painted within an hour of working, and the last thing besides wiring/padding to do is getting the helm up to snuff, its on its 3rd coat of bondo, and it's taking forever to dry (flippin humid around here right now), all the other pieces have been painted with their base green coat or already weathered and am waiting on the plexiglass. The belt has been hotglued/fiberglassed and I'm going to sand and paint it tomorrow.

Sorry for the lack of info- i need sleep....

WOW. you should be an elite. after you are all done, you should put up a tutorial about EXACTLY how you did all this. Everything. Because your armer is freekin awsome!!!

PS: How much is all of this costing you?

I got your PM I sent the e-mail. Excuse the 20billion attachments. :) I'm honored you think this should go in the elite section! Though the build quality sucks compared to if I had 2 months to do this instead of 2 days O.O

When I get back from A-kon I'll remake parts of the armor, and I'll post a tutorial on how I did some of it. If anyone has questions i can probably explain it for ya without a entire tutorial.

And I have NO idea how much this costs (I try to keep the costs shoved way back in the back of my head...)
But the supplies I've used so far (guestimating some of it); 2 cans of resin - $35 each; 3 extra MEKP tubes $8 each; 1 can of bondo $22; 5 packs of fiberglass $5 each; one ream of cardstock $14; ink 2 tanks $15 each; underarmor $100; cycle helmet $40; hot glue 2 packs $6 each; chip brushes 4 packs $9 each; harness $15; gloves $24; Foam padding 20; Misc electronics $50. (I'm sure I'm forgetting more but around 470 so far, before tax :p )

Also you gotta keep in mind: this doesn't include the equipment I've been using such as my dremel kit (well over 100 after everything is included) or the hotglue guns/soldiering iron/etc...

Incredible work. I am very impressed with the light set up. Electronics is my weak point. Wont be long now before you will be sporting a fully finished suit!

Thanks ender. instead of packs of fiberglass, could you just you use fiberglass cloth? becouse it would be about 7$ for 9 square ft.

Few questions: what is MKEP?
how much on paint?
Would super glue or elmers glue hold up on the fiberglassing?
Does the mustard act as a sort of acid that eats through the bondo or something?

Well packs of fiberglass is fiberglass cloth (depending) you can either use fiberglass cloth or fiberglass mat, the mat is a royal pain to work with, but is stronger, you can use less fiberglass, but also absorbs more resin. walmart has 8 sq feet for 5 bucks.

MEKP - methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is the hardner agent used in the resin, they don't give you enough of it to use a entire can wort of resin so you will need to buy more (get this from homedepot or the like, warlmart sells these little itty bity bottles only)

Paint... so far: 2 cans green, 4-5 each, 2 cans black 3 bucks each, 2 cans primer - 6 bucks each. 2 cans silver 4 -5 each.

Super glue *might work* elmers will, try to avoid any glues that are flammable in their undryed state as the solvents in the resin might destroy the glue and cause your thing to fall apart. the reason i dont use super glue is because its hard to work with, and you have a good chance of gluing yourself together unlike elmers :)

The mustard is a mask, sorta like tape; but washable and more delicious :D You can use it to make scuff marks and what not too, the muastard keeps the top coat from sticking to the under coat (say green on top of silver). Its more effective in small, hard to reach, or complex shapes (such as balttle damage).

Thanks. Now i dont have to spend any mony on glue :D I am on a VERY tite budget becouse my parents made me go and buy a whole bunch of clothes with the money I had saved up for it  300 bucks down the drain.....

Bout the reisin haredner, you are saying that if you get a regular, say, gallon of it at home depo, it doesnt come with enough liquid hardener?

By cans of reisin, do you mean gallons or what?

sorry about all the questions, I just want to make sure I get it PERFECT.
