Fiberglass or Rondo

Bondo Body Filler and Bondo Fiberglass Resin is what you'll need to make rondo. The putty is for touchups after applying bondo for detail work, since it will leave little imperfections. As far as I know, Bondo brand is a buyer's choice. I've personally never tried any other brand.

do you need to use bondo resin to mix with the bondo putty? could it be another sort of resin? or could i use entirely different brands for the mix? and also what ratios do i use, how much putty to how much resin?

The term for "Bondo Resin" is Rondo. Just a little quicker. There is a whole line of videos by Ben Streeper to show HOW TO RESIN, RONDO, SAND AND PAINT a completed Pep helmet. He doesn't show how to pep them. I hope you can figure out how to match numbers together. Go to YouTube, and type in Ben Streeper make a helmet. That should get you started. It's kind of hard to figure out at first, his clips are all messed up. But you should get it.

Again, you're not going to mix the putty and resin, you mix the resin with the body filler. Also, the resin is just to thin out the body filler, so you're not going to use a lot or it will be too thin and will not cure great. Fron Ben's videos, it seems like the ratio is somewhere around 3:1. Just watch all of Ben's videos, it'll answer your questions:

thanks and yes i have seen the videos, but he never mentioned anything about mixing body fillers and resins from other brands, and my apologies just a habit of saying putty :p
would mixing a body filler and resin from another brand be just as good, because it just seems everyone is only ever talking about bondo brand things, and im in australia, so if i want that i have to order it from america.

Ha! I love threads like this. One guy asks a question, and it's a good one, so everyone who reads it chimes in with something related. Good stuff.
Hell, it answered some questions I've been wanting to ask!
And by the way, the Ben Streeper vids, and the Thorssoli's MkVI Costume Buildup (all 89 pages and counting) in the Elite show case are, in my opinion, what make up the "Holy Trinity" (Made up of those two, and the Noob Orientation video) that should be required veiwing and reading for all. I learned a ton from all of those, and I haven't even really done anything yet lol.
Btw, I'm going to be doing The Rondo method for my inside as well. As far as I can recal, it looked like Ben did a 3/4 Bondo, 1/4 resin mixture in a 16 oz cup. Add the right dosage of hardener..mix, pour and slosh around till covered.
Going to try that myself tomorrow.
Good luck to you sir!

i dont see why the brand would matter its all the same stuff. and the reason that we talk about bondo is because its the most convenient up here in the states, or wherever. if you cant find Bondo brand find something else...adapt to survive

Yeah, I'd think that anything they have in your neck of the woods...that is used to do body work on cars....use that and you're good to go. Doesn't matter what the name is....as long as it does the same thing and is made up of generaly the same chemical compounds.

The brand names do not matter. Any one will work. Bondo brands just seem to be more readily available at the more common stores like Walmart and Autozone. Also, I think it has been said already but... don't forget to add the hardener for both the body filler and the resin, other wise they won't harden. Just read the instructions on the cans, it will tell you how much to add. After a while you will get a feel for it. good luck and hope this helps.

You can go with the brand you think is best, for me I went with Fiberglass resin from a company called 3M, and it's worked just fine as a resin coat to harden pep pieces. I didn't get the preferred brand of Bondo Fiberglass resin since the 3M resin i bought came in a bulk that was twice as much for 35 bucks as compared to the bondo company (was something i found at my local Lowes hardware and lucked out on). I will try and mix it with bondo for Rondo soon.

You typically only fiberglass the inside to strengthen the piece and only resin the outside to preserve the details on the outside.
