First odst build

Going to a con in september and im mostly done with construction i was looking for tips with painting and what not.

Update: i was called back to barracks about a week earlyer than expected so i cant do any more work on my build. However if you have any questins about accual millitary clothing / protective equitment then i would be happy to help and ill try to include photos when i can

spray thin layers, don't ever try to stay too long on a spot, drops might ruin it all and you'd loose an awful lot of details

edit: oh and you might want to sand it and spray some primer first, to be sure the paint will grip to whatever you're painting

I just saw the pics, amazing work!! but actually you won't need to sand since it's foam
I can't clearly see but did you fill the seam so it won't be seen once painted? somebody told me he used basic harware silicone
oh and if you want it to last I think plasti dip spray is commonly used on foam props and armors, but you might want to do that before painting

Yeah thanks. I used super thin body liner to seal the armour, its very similar to plastidip but its all i could get my hands on. At the moment i have it sealed it and given it a first coat of paint im going with flat black for the base then ill just work my other colours on top.

My build has only take one week so far and im hoping to get it painted in less than a week. Its a bit of rush job but its goin pretty well.

Edit: also i made the mistake of attaching straps and velcro before painting ive gone through about a roll of masking tape just to stop them from getting painted

Im going to supernova in brisbane with a few mates. Im hoping to see a few 405th members down there.

UPDATE
a few pics of the painted armor. i found a really good nylon fabric dye for the straps and it was supposed to work on Velcro as well,
i tested it out and sure enough it died the Velcro and the Velcro worked just as well as it did before

full armor after painting and sealing. note the inside is not sealed on the shin and thigh plates. i will correct this mistake,
it kinda slipped my mind while i was doing it\

the back is looking better with a bit of paint. not that in this build i wasn't going for accuracy but more recognisability.
i.e. the shoulder pads are a tad over-sized and the chest is a bit enlarged as well.
I suppose because i wont be wearing a helmet to the con i decided to tweek the armor a bit to make up for it
i will however be making a helmet but i will be taking a bit longer to do that and i probably wont start it until I'm back on barracks
a bit of pep will keep me busy between shifts.

Mate this build is really good! Its great to have another Australian member! Just a quick question, what colour are u planing on doing as a secondary e.g Romeo=blue, rookie=white.( I hope that made sense )

hey just a quick update
my colour scheme is going to be gun metal grey with red highlights but, I'm also going to add a few kahki green highlights
to bring it together with my auscam under suit and my plate carrier vest which its mounted on
also ive started the planning phase of my smg build.

this is how i planed my armor build but i cut most of the plan up to make stencils
also i know the paper looks real scrappy but i have a 100m roll of meter wide paper and i tear bits off to do sketches on

thanks for the support guys ill probably post another update tomorrow of either the start of my smg build or my next coat of paint.
depending on what i feel like doing.

the color scheme as you present it is nice, can't wait to see it
(have you considered buying a working mini-red dot on ebay for instance? That's what I'm planning to do when I'll made my own M7smg)

Love the flag idea, the whole build looks pretty solid. You might be the first to incorporate ODST with DPCU.

It's looking awesome with the paint, and for the scaling, just remind yourself you're making a freaking ODST bdu, and more to that, it's yours, your own style and that's fkin awesome

Ended up being a 3 day bender but ill post an update
When i get some more work done thanks for the
Encourage ment. On the other hand i did just finish
My bulk at the gym so im in good shape for the suit. I think i might need to make a bigger set of thigh plates.
Hopefully ill get a proper update soon
