Well, I finally got around to peppiing the Rookie helmet. Took forever. One of the most anoying f#$@ing peps I've done. Here it is:

On another note, I got a nice little package from LeeKeegan in the mail Friday. One of my favorite guns (except Splaser), the M6C/SOCOM (M6S):

This thing is a monster, but I love it. Thanks again Lee.

Man that sucks that some pieces were too small. It's frustrating when you have to redo some parts. I had to pep my shoulders twice because the first ones were too big :/
But I really like your foam parts. You also have a fast progress. keep it up!

Are you going to use the foam parts to hold your pepped parts onto? Very good progress btw and love the toy that you received from Lee!

TD, I'm mostlikely going to remake the chest peice I made in foam (both for mobility, and because its too small right now), and might just use my tac vest to mount it all. Not really sure yet. And I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks the gun is good looking. I can't wait untill I get to paint it this weekend :).

Well, I don't really have an update right now, but I was thinking of a few ways to mount my armour. The one I think I'm going to use, I got from Grave Hawk, which is make a Reach torso and just attach the ODST chest and stuff to it. I personally think it's an awesome idea, but I have some problems scaling that perticular torso. Any tips?

Hey, I'm going to try something for the forearm I'm going to make (out of foam). I'm going to make a tac-pad using my 1st gen iPod (going to use Rhinoc's Reach forearm). Here's the iPod:

Update: I finished fiberglassing my Rookie helmet, and I'm going to start the Bondo stage when I get home.

I added this com attatchment because one of the ear parts was sticking out too much, so I just cut it out.

I also made a new chest peice (because other one was too small). After I fiberglass/ bondo it, I'm going to cut it into 3 peices for easier mobility.

Update: Almost completly finished with my Rookie helmet! So far I'm on the 3rd layer of bondo. I have a few patches I need to go over again, and some holes to fill with spot putty. As soon as I get some more sandpaper (tonight or tomorrow) I will be completly finished with bond, and ready for paint :) (I also have to sand a lot on the inside, because i accidentaly clumped bondo together in a few spots).

I like the comm pack, you did a damn good job! I would suggest spending a lot of time smoothing out that bondo and keep a good eye on the detail. I think if you go slow and have attention to detail this will look awesome

Thanks. and trust me, in the past few days all I've done is sand, bondo, sand bondo. I have 5 layers af bondo done now (I hope it's finally enough to finish). all I'm doing now is sandind, spot putty, and hopefully laster on tonight, finishing my visor. Should have some updates soon. Oh yeah, and my comm pack got destroyed. After 3rd layer of bondo, my little brother tryed on the helmet, and when he took off for some reason dropped right on comm pack. I almost killed him, but I'm happy that only the comm pack died lol.

I think its coming along great. Can't wait to see the final product. I like the com attachment too. Also, I don't know if you have one, but a cheese grater file works great on taking off excess bondo and saves you from having to sand so much.

Thanks for the tip blackula, might try that. As for visor, have already made two using a visor tutorial I found. Will post the link here after i post pics.

Looks really good! Though, a personal suggestion: don't lather on the bondo like it's cake icing next time. It's far, FAR easier to build it up in thin layers than to go for one thick layer and have the pain in the backside of sanding it all down to find that you've got to do it again.

The best way to do it would be to get a layer of maybe a millimetre or three, maximum, and smooth it over with your spreader as best you can before it sets. The smoother it is before you start sanding, the less hassle you'll have during sanding.

Update: Ok, it's been a while but I have an update. All I've really been doing is bondo (I also used a different type of bondo (Gold), and it's a lot easier to sand) and sanding work, and I'm still no where near done, I've also padded the inside.

That is great effort. However, I cringe seeing how you apply the bondo. I'm not sure what you used but there are too much lumps. I did something similar when I first applied bondo on the scout helmet. It took me hours to sand off the extras. You may have used the wrong applicator.

On the helmet areas that bend, I suggest that you don't fold them (see the ODST chest pieces that prepped. Less bend less bondo.) When you apply the bondo, use a wide hard plastic piece. Don't use metal because it can't bend around round edges. I used the clear toy packages because it was hard enough and yet bendable. Put some bondo on the plastic applicator and apply the bondo like applying peanut butter on a bread. You get smoother bondo, which translate to less sanding.

To sand, you may want to invest on an electronic sander. It takes minutes instead of hours.
