Cadet said:The Halo Graphic Novel was also a collection of shorts done by different people, and it was fantastic. The difference I am starting to see more clearly as time goes on is that the Graphic novel was closely directed by Bungie, as such, the stories all fit the established continuity and universe wonderfully, and added things to the Halo mythos, without ret-conning anything that came previous or feeling like they made any grand departures from the feel and style and of the universe, even though the all didn't look the same and ran the gambit from almost cartoony in Last Sunrise over New Mombasa, to Manga, the story of how Johnson escaped..
What it feels like I am seeing here is Microsoft, not Bungie, just saying, "Make Halo Stories" to the directors without any real creative control or guidance being given to maintain the feel of the Halo universe, and as such we get Spartan Space Crotch rockets, Samurai Elites, and Gundam-esque sets of Armor for the Spartans, with massive guns hanging over their shoulders. None of which I feel can be said to fit well with the established Halo universe.
I never said hate, though, I said wary, but I will not get my hopes up. I am almost certain I will buy this, just like I will buy and play Halo:Reach, even though I am skeptical at what feels like a loss of maintained continuity and creative control.
Cadet said:As I have stated before, I don't "Hate this" becuase it is anime, I don't hate it all, I can't hate it, I haven't seen it, I have stressed that I am "Wary" becuase it looks like so many of their stories are vast departures from the Halo Universe and will not fit in with established continuity, and perhaps will even fly in the face of, disregard, or contradict some of the established facets of the Halo Universe.
There is a difference between artistic license and art style, and not even making a token effort to keep your story within the established universe. I am being "Such a harsh critic" becuase what drew me into Halo in the first place was the rich and well established universe. I read Halo of Reach before anyone I knew owned an X-Box, and long before I ever got to play Halo, and fell in love with the series becuase of that book, that is why I remain wary of projects like this that have the high potential to disregard all that good fiction.

Enrisan said:I don't mind some of the art, but I really despise anime. If I see one of those stupid anime face expressions, then I will really hate it. Appleseed style wouldn't be so bad, but I really don't like this at the moment.
I would have preferred a short CGI style movie like the Halo Wars cinematics.

As Yuki pointed out, there's plenty of anime that doesn't have cutesy expressions and such in it, plenty of more serious style animes, so I wouldn't fret.
Anime does refer to primarily Japanese animation, not cartoons in general, and it does have trends that run through it. But, as Xalener pointed out, it just means animation in the end, not pokemon-dragonballz-naruto version of Halo.
Or so we all hope.![]()
