As for boots, I'm going to have to look around a little more for some that will look similar to the Marines (in Halo of course).

Toward the beginning of October I'll start kicking into gear and start making the vest. I'm just too busy right now and have too much on my plate.

Go check out the thread I posted a link to on the first page for some decent places to get a swat gray bdu set.
I probably won't be starting mine for a long while, money and time issues, along with an over bearing parental unit and college, the parental unit sees the projects here as a waste of time and money.

So I won't be starting until sometime next year :[.

You could get some boots at either goodwill or a thrift store. I've seen a few pairs that are pretty damn close.

As for parents, just say it's for school.

The pack being a part of the vest may be due to how the models were constructed and textured.
It looks like the pouches are on straps for the pack and are worn over the older army vests, the ones that didn't have any attach points on them even though SWAT vests showed that it was a desirable trait (to have attach points).

That is standard looking military clothing. Any army surplus store will sell that stuff to you. They had to make them look like soldiers so they obviously literally made them look like soldiers. I even own a pair of khakies like those. Check Wal-mart too that where I got the khakies.

Another possible colour for the fatigues is something called "foliage green" which is a greenish-grey or a greyish-green colour. Relative saturation depends a lot on manufacturer, wear, age, and exposure.

I'm working on a set of marine fatigues with my girlfriend right now. I got the initial vest and the pants pretty much done. It should be done by monday. We're gonna be making a couple of them for a movie, so this one is a test to figure out the pattern.

these are the boots im using for my Mjolnir suit. they look a lot like the marines boots.

If so, if anyone wants to experiment, try getting some Truspec (very important) brand woodland bdus.


Wash them, wear them and eventually they should start to fade.

I'm an airsofter and I've heard only bad things about Truspec and their ability to fade. So if anyone agrees that the BDU's of the marines are actually camo, then someone should experiment on the Truspec brand BDUs. It'd be nice to see a couple pictures of how much it actually does fade.

as far as the Halo: CE (halo1) marines go, there doesn't appear to be a stitch of camo among them.

I had previously been convinced on the foliage green color, but after spending some more time ingame studying the marines, I am leaning back toward a neutral grey color. I think the grey is influenced by the colors around it, if your in trees/grass it has a greenish tinge if your underground, or whatever it tends to pick up other colors.

while not perfec tto the ingame boots, the ingame boots are probably based off these, these are the standard issue(before ACUs) combat boot. http://www.camo-store.com/infantry_combat_boots.htm you can probably pick them up at an army navy store for like $50. They're leather nylon and gortex, warm in the winter and they allow your feet to breathe in the summer, water resistant(unless you are standing in water for extended periods of time. only problem we ever had with them in the army, they dont take a shine as well as some other boots

I agree they do have a similar look. and would work fine for any re-enactors.
here is some ingame shots of the boots for reference purposes.
it looks like the armored and unarmored marines wear the same boots, but more is exposed on the unarmored marines.

they appear to have 2 buckles on the boot shaft in front, no exposed laces, rubber covering heel cup and over toe.
