Hi there people.

2 days ago I finished to pep and glueing my first armor piece, here's link (it took me about 10 hours):
Halo ODST HD Shoulder
The most difficult part was glueing the middle part, right a little bit from the top you can see that there should be a horizontal line but it's not that regular...

Anyway, I feel satisfacted from my first build, so right now I'm choosing what piece will be next and I need to make scaling trials (I thinking about printing only the pieces from where my arm enters and comes out to see if I could fit it, I'll let you know if it works, in order to save paper, ink and so on).

I cannot start right now resining because the teperature is from 6 to -10 here in Switzerland, gotta wait the Spring XD

Looks really good so far! I know what you mean about it being difficult, that piece is much more complex than it looks...

I've been doing all papercraft as well (it's pretty cold out in Michigan, too), but let us know how it turns out!

I was thinking about the next job, pepping the left shoulder guard of Carter.
Since is going to be cold until April, gotta work with paper these months :D, and background music during pepping sessions, Halo Mjolnier Mix ehehehehe

Wow, that's exactly the same shoulder setup I was planning on using. It's what I have on my character in the actual game. I'm also leaning toward CQC instead of Commando, but we'll see how that progresses...

Mine Spartan has CQC Shoulders, Emile Helmet, Assault/Sapper Chest, Grenadier Knees.

My suit instead I think will be:
Helmet: Grenadier UA/FC
Shoulder L: ODST
Shoulder R: Commando
Chest: Assault/Sapper
Knees: Gungnir

Emile's Helmet is cool but I don't think I'm gonna make it as first build, next year or so when I'll be more "skilled" I probably give it a try. Gungnir helmet looks cool too, but let's try something easier (yes, as if everything else is easier than those helmets XD).

Try making the chest next I found it ti be a great help with learning scaling and pep work

S**t... yesterday got home, no ink F********K XD
Played 360, watched TV and anxiously waited (and still doing it yet at work) this evening when I'll get home and finally could pep another piece.

Hey, I am glueing the right gauntlet, but how the hell I'm gonna fiberglass it inside? Gotta leave the bottom surface unglued, then fiberglass inside and then glue it together? Any advice?

You pretty much have to just get the fiberglass cloth inside of it, it is a pain to do but I wouldn't cut it open to do the inside fiberglass, also you can use the Rondo method to do the inside also which is alot easier to do. if your not familar with how to use Rondo look it up in the search bar there are a few tutorials that will show you how to do it

Thank you very much!!! I'll find a way to reach the hardest parts.

Finally, I think this evening when I get home from work I'll be able to finish to glue the last parts of the gauntlet pep. I'll share the pics as soon as I can.

Finished! Finally, unfortunately no pictures yet. Got just a little problem... the gauntlet is a bit longer than it should be and I cannot bend my arm really well and the hand is almost impossible to bend... Got any advice in that case? There's a trick or something in order to not start over a new gauntlet? (I'll make another one and change the length o maybe 2 cm, but not right now, gotta work on the bicep next).
Thank you in advance, pics will come soon.

As long as you lay down a layer of straight fiberglass resin and catalyst before you start your pieces you should be right. And just a tip. If you want to do rondo you can use rondo to hold fiberglass clothe down. I tried it in two helmets and it worked. But cut ur clothe before you mix the rondo. Set them in place. Pour rondo in and as u swirl it push the clothe down so the rondo goes through it. Or pour a second layer as well. Btw dont let a catalyst explode in your hand like i did or else your arm gets some knarly burns n bruises.

Hope your enjoying pepping man its quick an adventure. Especially flyig squirells mk vi chest xD

Well hello, And yes this is a very common problem. I reworked my forearms many times before I learned the two things that every one should learn when dealing with pep. 1.) It's paper: You can cut out and/or add any were you want 2.) all those ridges and braces get cut out: Yes sir they are added to give strength but once hardened, you don't need most of them you can grind/sand them down to half there size 1/4 down 1/8 or even 1/16 and it will not hurt the part 1 bit.

:DSo what dose this mean to you? Notch the part near you're elbow to free up movement. You do this while still in paper form so you can clean it up a bit. Check you hand movement see if it's just the inner ridge that is restricting the movement. If it is just grind/sand it down after hardening.

And once again I'll tell everyone that you have to remember it's paper.... You can cut and glue it any way you want. If it's to small you can add to it. If it's to big you can take out a small piece. I personal have been getting more and more into mixing 2-3 files together to get what I want. I even draw out pieces and add them to my pep parts. I have also hit my parts with a dremel and ground off 1/2 inch to give me the freedom of movement that I wanted, and then glued a new ridge on it and hit it with resin. I hope this helped B3RS3RK, if you need more info just stop back in and I'll be sure help you as much as I can.:cool

Thank you that was very helpful!! Well got problem with my hand and elbow, can't bend at all XD but I got what was the problem, 290mm is too much I think the best size is 260mm or 250mm. Yesterday I followed the overall best scaling method for my Jorge helmet and tadaaaa... was still to small... I had to change the height to 350mm, print on normal paper the bottom pieces where the head is meant to enter and tape them together and test if my head could enter the hole, and it worked, I don't know but scaling method doesn't work with me and I followed the instructions, anyway gonna pep Jorge helmet tomorrow (need to stay with gf this evening :p).

Happy pepping to everyone XD

Updates XD, this week 3 days in a row got home from work at 6 p.m. and worked about 5 hours to get to this point. Here's some pics:

I'm wondering if u need my same amount of time...

Looking great, The Lines are running very smooth.

Right now I'm looking for protective clothes and respirators, I found a place where I'm going to buy a respirator with dust and vapors filters, something about 180$ and some gloves and some complete suits (they're specalized in safety clothing and respirators fortuantely :D)
I spent almost 3 hours today learning about fiberglass, resin, body filler, respirator, type of filters and hazards. Something everyone in this forum MUST do before starting fiberglassing, resining, bondoing or wathever (I saw a video on youtube of a guy's tutorial about resining happily without even a simple mask O_0, wearing only t-shirt, bermudas, no gloves...).

I just got some doubts left and if you can answer my questions I'll really appreciate it:
This is the procedure I'm planning but somewhere I got questions XD

1 - I'm going to resin the outside and resin + fiberglass cloth the inside of every pep part
2 - Make 2 layers (to make it stronger)
3 - I found a Bondo (here's called "putty for cars") designed for rubber, do you think it's going to work on resin or I must get just the normal putty for cars instead?
4 - Starting detailing the parts and then sand them (I need different sand paper types from what I read around)
5 - Put the primer on the sanded parts and then color it (if I understood well)
6 - Enjoy my finished armor

I finished my Jorge helmet, gotta wait to get home in order to upload some pics and show you my work, yesterday started to cut out the cheset pieces (7 pages of 27 cutted XD) fortunately I hadn't to scale the chest, the seize was already perfect XD (at least from the measurements I made, I haven't used any scaling method because when I tried them on the helmet it was completely wrong... I measured approximately the height, width and length and added a inch :D same for the chest

Really can't wait to see the final result of my work, I'm already dreaming about it, just sick XD, pep is a time consuming process but who gives a f**k, it's an hobby XD (and a personal achievement... got a job, got a girlfriend, now I just need to get a spartan's armor XD)

Here's the finished pep of my helmet:

I made a free picture gallery and gonna update it because on free hosting sites the pictures have an expiry date XD, and in this on no, so here's the link haloreacharmor

I would use two coats of resin on the outside, gives you something to sand into for those small paper lines. The regular filler will be harder/better. Yes you need 80-200 grit sand paper I use up to 400 if I want a really smooth finish. Primer/sand repeat till you have the finish you want. I use a primer filler at this step to fill in all the small lines and/or pits. Then paint, this you should take some time to come up with what you want it to look like. Looking at you're helmet you probably can get away with very little bondo work, Nice pep job by the way.:)
I hope this was helpful.
