Hi there people, I'm the italian Emile from the Mjolnir Armory group (see our previous work in my signature's thread) so I'm not exactly a noob but quite close ;)

I was thinking about building a Mark VI suit but I'm having issues with Flyingsquirl helmet that I found on the pepakura costuming wiki that everyone else seems to use for this build.

Specifically I'm having trouble scaling it. Usually to find the scale of a helmet I go on pepakura designer, select only the parts that compose the helmet's hole edge (the border of the hole where you put your head through) and I print/assemble only those. Afterwards I try to put my head through it and I scale it up or down as needed.

For the aformentioned helmet I found myself scaling the width (W value in pep) up to 270mm, and the length boosts up to 400mm making me wonder that I'm building a HUUGE helmet that could look ridiculos. I am normal built and 1.86m tall.

I have searched around the forum and I have found many people building the same helmet but their scaling factors are pretty weird, meaning for a normally sized head scaling it at W230 would be impossible to wear, yet they manage to stay around 235/245mm with the width of the model.

I.E.

This is roughly the method that I use to scale helmets described above

Thanks in advance for any help or advice that you could provide, and sorry to bother you with such trivial questions.

The hole for your head on the Mk VI helmets is small, and is designed to be. Once the helmet is fully pepped, you can trim it up to be able to get it off and on with ease (though, you may want to trim it up after you harden it). Most Mk VI helmets that I have seen here are scaled to a height of between 250mm and 290mm. I myself and did a helmet at 300mm and it was quite large. The one I'm currently pepping (the flyingsquirrel HD) is set to 270mm in height and so far looks much better. Try that and see how it works for ya.

@Rex84

Thanks for the advice!

I have tried but with the height set to 290 it's still too small (Width goes to 253) even considering trimming the border

I guess I'll have to go with a low def and then go crazy with bondo or building a slightly large helmet!
