I use two methods depending on if I'm in time crunch or not.

If crunched for time, a stupid sharp knife and a practiced, steady hand.
If time is no worry, scroll saw or band saw with an adjustable bed.

Well, considering I lack the tools for the second method, guess I'll continue practicing freehand cuts

Or use a straight edge/metal ruler to guide your hand if it is a straight line. If it us curved, a curved tip exactly helps, but is not necessary

And the gluing is almost done. For the greaves I just covered it, and will allow the spray paint to do the work.

the can should say something on the back, but I am pretty sure it is 30-45 min to apply another coat, and an hour or two to fully dry? Not sure thiugh.

Sorrynif i missed it but what type of glue are you using?

Contact Cement. And oh I let the coat dry for 1.5 hours and got these done

Cool. The reason I asked is it doesnt look like the helmet peices are adhering right. Did you let the glue dry for a few minutes before you stuck it together? If you did this it should have instantly stuck together and be near impossible to seperate the edges. There also shouldnt be any gaps or seams because its hold is so tight.

i would reccomend watching videos on projects bu punished props, evil Ted, kamuicosplay, or any other youtuber that works with foam and contact cement to give you a better idea on the process.

The painted peices look great, I just hope the helmet comes out ok. The tape seems to be covering alot but the front of the helmet looks somewhat rough and hanging off for whatever reason and I hope it can be fixed

Youtubers are usually far too professional for me, and most if not at all times I am lost with what they have to say. I am just too dumb in all honesty. As it is, I threw the helmet across the room and it held tight so I am not worried.

You gotta stop putting yourself down so much man, no one has every been good at the first thing they tried. Your armor is looking good and you should take pride in it.
If you don't like the look of the helmet you can always take another crack at it with all the experience you gained from the first attempt

Depression does that to you. Especially when I look at people younger than myself doing this in 1 month as opposed to my 3. More so making screen accurate stuff. More so the goal other than having something to honour Twilight Sparkle, it was something for a contest. I feel I failed the goal alltogether.

I beleive in you! The only reason these people are getting such good results is they work on their project every opportunity they get without breaks. They also get really picky and only use peices that are perfect. Look at ExCeLLuR8 's build! It came out amazing because he wanted to look as good as possible. Every time a peice was cut rough, there was a slight bevel(even if it was only for an inch), or he just didnt like how it ended up looking, he would recut until it worked. I know you can do this. Try again, dont get down, and aim for perfection. If there are any gaps, you need to glue it better. If there any seams, fill them. If there are edges and lines instead of a smooth curve, sharpen your knife and cut in one pass, rather than multiple small ones. All of these things will show up in your build if not eradicated the first assembly of those peices. Work hard on it early so you dont break your back later and strive for perfection.

I'll be honest, this actually just depresses me more, as every bit of this was hours on end in the making, added to high class work from a professional; and hopeful perfection on my part (I am just too stupid to make things actually work). I know it was aimed to make me feel better, but I A: Don't have the material, and B: Don't have the time. I guess I am just gonna take the idea and probably use it once, and store it away with the rest of my shame. I don't know what I was thinking when I set out here. I am not smart or capable of contributing here. I am hopeless. Also EXCeLLuR8, looks like a professional, I am a a goonie tryin' to make ends meet.

Perhaps. But it comes a time when failure taints any form of will. My halls are lined with participation medals and nothing more. Never the less, I don't intend to leave not at all, just perhaps cheer you lot on; as I don't have the mind for costuming it seens. Or maybe I will continue on again? The future it unknown. Never the less I still have a few final things to finish on the ODST.

When you look at it the bumpy tape does give it that banged up war look. Huh, maybe my assumptions were wrong.
