Is Grand Theft Auto IV mocking Halo?

I saw the story up over at HBO today about a potentially related easter egg in GTAIV that some are claiming is a dig at Halo.

I was just wondering if any of you who got GTAIV can confirm or deny this. I really wish someone out there would upload some screen caps or a video clip of the supposed easter egg. If it is a parody of Halo, I'd like to know one way or the other.

Apparently it depicts the soldiers as redneck idiots.

Not too many people are going to be happy about that.

Well I was going to say yes to the Halo reference, but that wasn't their main focus it seems. Seems like a dig at U.S. Politics. This should probably piss off those in military service more than fans of Halo. I wonder if they're trying to send a message, or just be funny. I was thinking the first as it's not really that funny.

I second this. It seems like Halo was just a medium for inspiration, not that its a dig on it. (more of a dig on democracy and hillbillies)

Yeah I'm with Sean on this one.
Isn't this video a little long and laborious. It lost it's humour from about 30 seconds in.
If it's an example of the ingame humour I think I'll give it a miss.
Plus you can't mock the Chief no matter how minor it might be!
I know GTA is meant to be like the best thing since sliced bread but I dissagree with some of it's ethics.
Anyway thats another story and I'm probably opening up a whole can of worms by saying that.

I agree there are some interesting, way-too-coincidental similarities in the design of the armour from the HALO series and these "Republican Space Rangers". They clearly got thier inspiration from our beloved game.

Personally, I don't know what to make of it. I couldn't say if it was meant as a jab at HALO, US politics or whatever else, but I do know that I didn't find it amusing at all.

It was just plain stupid, imho. I got to the end of the video and thought "OMG, why'd they even waste thier time with that?"

What a bunch of hypocrite bull $#!T! They put this in a game that promotes more Murder, Violent Crimes, Organized Crime, Destruction and Mayhem then all the Halo's combined!. They can take there political bull $#!T and shove it up there ass. I think this was a stab at both Halo and US Policy's but f*** whatever. Mexico has stricter laws against immigration then the US and you don't see anyone complaining because no one wants to live in that $#!T hole country Because they dont have one honest government official in that country.

yes the armor is obviously inspired by Halo, but its more so a jab at politics then Halo, and no one considered this but perhaps some guys over at Rockstar are fans of the Halo series, and its not the firswt thing to mock Halo, however these things have not been recieved negatively

idk could just be me but hating GTA for this is kind of stupid.....the other stuff well most of that is reasonable
