Mini update!!!

First off, sorry it's been a hot minute since a semblance of an ACTUAL update.... but I'm getting to the point where I can do a pretty large content drop for all those who are actually following. (I see the views go up... I know youre there.) The next update SHOULD include some of the following...

Thigh coating and Magnum being magnetically holstered.
Magnum beginning paint job.
Small pieces being painted! (YAYYYYYY!!!) (Small parts being Cod piece, Ab Plate, Butt Plate, and Pauldrons)
Railgun getting it's Magnetic Sling placement, and painting! (yayyyyy!)
Chest and booster packs getting some coatings of XTC-3D
Boots getting painted

That being said, this update will have the following!
So I've been busy sanding, laying down coats of primer, sanding more, and painting base layers on some of the pieces I've had sitting around for a little. namely the Pauldrons, Forearms, and small odds and ends of the armor. After I finished up my thigh pieces, I continued to print out sections of the Helmet, and that is now about 30 hours away from being done printing. I've honestly been really lazy about getting around to the shin modeling, partly because I really need to take some measurements, and partly because I don't want to crunch numbers and actually scale the dang things. (That and model in all of the places to stick the ratchet hardware.) but it'll get done... probably after this helmet gets done printing...
I also picked up my paint of choice for my color scheme (If you hadn't figured that out already) and it's not EXACTLY what I thought I was getting, but honestly, I like it. I thought I was getting a black/pepper metallic color, but it turned out to be a more super dark brown metallic... not really super mad though because I can do some shading on the armor with a flat black now and it'll have a greater visual effect. so yay! I'm also going to be done some light weathering with some steel wool a bit further down the line.
Here's a sneak peak of the left Pauldron mid-paint.

Looks awesome! the progress is so cool :)

Okay, so I've been making some serious progress and I've been able to paint and weather some of the pieces I had available to do so. I also found an awesome color for the armor that I'll be using now. I also found that if In spray some flat black on it and quickly wipe it off, it gives the armor a nice dirty/oily look. mix that with the weathering from steel wool and a nice metallic top coat, it really gives the armor some great depth. I'm loving it! I also have a spine plate for the undersuit coming in from Evakura Armor today! So with that, I can actually start attaching the magnets on the undersuit to hold pieces on. (Cod, Ab plate, butt plate, and however this spine plate is going to attach). Other undersuit parts (Neck seal and Hip sections) are coming in a couple of weeks via BMP Props. (Great experience, highly recommend both of their businesses!)

I'm going to be doing a mass coating of pieces I have lying around including the Chest, Thruster packs, Thighs, Helmet (which is done printing), and some touch up work on the M6H2 (to hide the magnets better). I'm going to be coating the helmet with Bondo as opposed to the XTC-3D I normally use because there are some pretty hefty gaps that need filling, as well as some lines that need straightening due to some alignment error. I also have a bit more sanding to do on the Railgun, but that's getting put on hold until I coat the chest rig and can place magnets.

Some bad news though (as always), 1. my dremel died on me for the 2nd time, so that needed to get replaced. Which it did, but it took a bit of time out that I could have been working on detailing some pieces... 2. My printer's threaded rods are shot after about 8 kilometers of filament being printed and need to be replaced. I have the rod ordered and should show up today as well. My printer also just received a massive upgrade in the form of dual extruders! but I had to switch to Bowden extruders (which are a pain in the butt compared to direct drive) and my filament guide I have no needs to get re-modeled because of some pretty extreme angles going into the bowdens. 3. I've hit some seriously frustrating issues with the models for the knee plates that I cant seem to fix and will make additional modelling on the knees difficult to say the least. (The models I have show a smooth plate, but in-game is looks like there should be holes, much like the upper portion of the Cod.) Simple fix if the model would cooperate, but NO, AutoCAD wants to say there's overlapping faces amongst other things... and finally 4. I need to figure out a way to secure the thigh pieces so that they stay nice a flush with eachother when closed. The strap I have will hold it together, but it's not an accurate fit. I'm thinking of making some form of hole-and-peg system to line everything up. Last ditch would be magnets, but I'd like to stray away form them since even those can walk a bit...
Now that the depressing stuff is out of the way, here's a bunch of pictures!

Damn, sorry you had problems with the printer. ;_;
But damn! This is some real progress you have here! :D I love how the shoulder pieces look like. :D

LOTS OF PICTURES INCOMING!!!!

So I've been hitting he grindstone pretty hard with my deadline approaching (April 21st) and it's been slow, and in pieces, but theres a good bit that I've gotten done in the past couple of days...

First off, I got my spine plate in from Evakura Armor, primed, and painted it.
20160325_221322000_iOS.jpg Bam! one undersuit piece done. (I know... its basic, but I like it.)

Second, I got the Ab plate and Pauldrons totally complete.
20160325_220729000_iOS.jpg(Oooh, shiny.)

Third, I got the visor cut out of my helmet, padded it all up, and did a test fit.

20160325_220841000_iOS.jpg (I know,its ugly... but it doesn't wobble!)
20160325_220933000_iOS.jpgVisibility is awesome!

Next, I actually started to get the hardware for my chest piece all rigged up (Even though it still needs some sanding, coating, etc...) and it fits awesome!

20160325_221201000_iOS.jpgJust need to get some form of buckle for this....

Fifth, I got those Pegs printed and stuffed into the thigh pieces to hold their alignment. I did way too much SWAGing (Scientific Wild *** Guess) getting this done, but they turned out pretty nice.

And lastly, I have one glove completely decked out! I'm probably going to be running some steel wool over the knuckles and a little over the hand, but I'd say these are, for the most part, done.

Next up,I'll be coating a BUNCH of pieces, mounting the spine plate to my undersuit, glazing, sanding, painting, and sealing my other glove, finishing bondo-ing this dang helmet, and sanding and painting forearms...

Stay tuned folks!

Awesome work bro! Can we get a shot of the helm with the torso on, and maybe a paldron or 2. Just for sizing proportions, and more awesomeness!

The helmet is on the big side, but I had to scale it up that much so it would fit over m head without having to cut out everything out to the edge of the model. (Which I almost basically did if you look at the helmet-padding picture.)

Figured that, the same with mine. A little big, but to make it work its necessary for comfort with fit, padding, and etc. As long as we don't look like bobble heads, thats what matters.

Love it!! Your suit is really looking good. I'm so needing to get my printer done. Seeing the detail that you can get with a printer is awesome!

Shake test for the Magnetic Sling on the Railgun. Going to add an additional magnet or 2 to get some extra hold. Overall satisfied though.

Micro update:
Over the past couple of days, my life has consisted of perfecting magnetic slings/holsters and masking tape... lots of masking tape....

I put the pistol and railgun magnets on risers connected to the armor to ensure magnet to magnet contact. This provides the most secure holds for the weapons.

Other than that.... tape.... lots of tape.....

Tape......As the old saying goes.....Can't fix it, Duct it!!! Build is coming out FANTASTIC!!!! I don't have the mental fortitude or knowledge to 3D print but I have to hand it to you....everything is sweet looking.....

I always thought it was "If you can't Duct it, (expletive) it." I'll be removing the tape today and begin another arduous process of retaping for the khaki bits. I'll also be throwing in some screws for game realism. I'm also dang near ready to do a massive coat-job for the chest, thrusters, and thighs. After that, it's all just painting, grudgingly dealing with these knee and shin bits, and finishing the helmet... Really hoping I can make my deadline (21 days)
